After installing the controller I found the switch movement was not smooth and easy. If you moved through the positions quickly the controller crackles and sparked visibly. After seeing the sparks, I decided this switch was going in the trash.
I also didn't like that the control positions are not intuitive. As you move the switch up from the off position at the bottom, the fan starts fast and then gets slower as you move the switch up to higher positions. (speed 1 is fast, speed 4 is the slowest) For it's price, I expected a higher quality controller.
I ditched this switch and installed a Lutron Skylark 1.5 Amp Single-Pole/3-Way Quiet 3-Speed Fan Control, model CTFSQ-F-LA, that cost me $20. I am much happier with the Lutron controller. It's a higher quality switch for almost half the price.
