R Grisham-Whitehouse: The first bit was a little slow, and I almost put it down, but it was well worth the initial slog. There are some very cute tongue in cheek bits, but not over the top. The characters are enthralling, I’m not sure where it’s going next but I am anxious to find out

Kindle Customer Baz: Lots of humour will have you laughing out loud, good characters fill out the brain twisting storyline, several nods to Douglas Adams whom I suspect is one of the inspirations for this first in series romp. A great read well worth a look, Baz

Steve Babarik: Anyone who likes Startrek and likes sci-fi with humor should find this book a real feelgood read. The characters are well fleshed out and likable. The story has a good basic plot. It's good vs evil and is predictable but the journey the story takes is less predictable with lots of surprises.

Kindle Customer: I wasn't expecting much from this book, but I was pleasantly wrong. The writing is character driven, sophisticated without being dry.
An excellent read. I'll buy his next book.

Thomas James: If you like sci-fi this one's for you. Its not that it raises the bar on the genre, it just plays around with it. In the final analyses, it is fun and for me that's the final factor.

Jonathan Smith: Having recently read a few multi volume, so serious that they are up their own fusion reactor, sci-fi series recently, I needed something more light hearted.
And this book is it! It gently laughs at every sci fi cliche going, while craftily relating what would happen if a swarm of aliens decided to wipe out....ummmm. everything.
Everywhere!
If you like fact packed military sci-fi look the other way while the rest of us enjoy a rollicking, can’t it down winner of a book!

D. DUBE: 4 out of 5 stars is, for me, superior. I very much enjoyed what I assume is a new author, certainly the first book from him that I've seen. Regardless, I read the book in one sitting, something I haven't done in quite some time. Very entertaining. My only criticism is the author stretched a bit too far in imagining different life forms (a malignant, for example), and I never got a good explanation for what the villain was doing to "prepare" the galaxy for the pending invasion. I'm glad the book at least hinted at one or more sequels.

A Buck: If I were a better writer I could write a review that would properly justify the five star rating. I enjoy a book with quirky characters and this book has those in spades. There is a good mix of serious action and comedic relief that makes this a pleasant escape from real life. If you like stories of bumbling super heroes with special powers, and this is not a proper super hero book, you will probably enjoy Shakedowners. And if you are like me, you will probably appreciate the fact that this book, unlike many other electronic format offerings, is well edited and not just scanned for spelling. All told, I found Shakedowners well worth the purchase price and a very pleasant read.

Jed T. E. Rhodes: Got recommended on my FB feed, and I’m always up for some space adventure, and this one was (as the headline says) pretty damn good. Not perfect - not by a long shot - but pretty damn good.
Positives:
- great characters, including a main character who could have very easily been irritating and ended up not being.
- good worldbuilding - a nice mix of tropes, riffs, and some fun original concepts (including the Malignant, which as a species concept is straight up hilarious and fascinating all at once).
- some excellent lines of dialogue - including “little grey twat” which may have been the first time I’ve laughed out loud in a while.
Negatives:
Actually, about the only negative I really have is a personal-preference thing to do with the plot (spoiler warning, review trawlers).
There’s a major shakeup to what I presume is the fictional universe’s status quo a few chapters in, and to be honest, I’d have preferred a story or two that established that status quo and had some stories set in it before upending it. This story is kind of a “Best of Both Worlds” dramatic shakeup story that needed some more episodic stuff beforehand to sell...
