Adam G. Fleming: There are apps you can carry on your phone, which you will probably use sometimes. However, if taking the Spiritual Variant across the Riasbaixas, you're going to want this book, the apps don't have it. Lots of useful info. Since I trekked from Porto, and I was being vigilant of every gram in my pack, I used a razor knife to remove the 3 ounce section Lisbon to Porto and didn't miss the info or the weight. Bom Caminho.

Emmell Sorensen: this is similar to the Brierley book on the French way of the Camino. This Portugese way is set out with routes, maps, places to stay. highlights and places to eat - for each day of the journey. this is a must for anyone completing this walking pilgrimage

Nathan Dahlman: Bought this book for my upcoming Camino which I hope to take. Will be interesting to see how much of it will be relevant post- COVID. My guess is that some of it will change. Not the fault of the book of course.
Print is very small and may have to bring a magnifying glass on my hike. Us old hikers have a bit of trouble with smaller prints. Does help me plan and dream until the day comes when I can take my first step to Santiago.

Jackie D.: We used this book when we walked the camino in 2015 and it was the best guide we could find. It was accurate and up to date and shows alternate routes as well. Of all our trips in our 40+ year marriage this was by far the best we've ever done. Wish we were younger to do it again!!

Beaky: Very well crafted guide and visually rich. The mauve homilies dotted throughout were irritating - I would use a thick pen and blot those out if I use this guidebook. But truth to say I am looking to get a different guidebook to this one and bin this one. Four stars because the author very thoroughly crafyed his book.

Deborah: We have lived in Spain for over eight years and Brierley's guides are absolutely the best for all the caminos. They are informative, accurate and highly recommended. Reading the spiritual parts of the guides is like wading through treacle and the author treats St James's remains in Santiago de Compostela as fact rather than legend. But will that matter to the Christian pilgrim? It is somewhat paradoxical however, that the author rather decries the commercialism, the materialism and the crass consumerism of the modern world, while failing, at the same time, to realise that the early medieval world instigated the legend of St James in Compostela precisely to put themselves on the commercial map for precisely the same reasons. As did other places which held portions of the true cross, the cloak of the Virgin, the bones of saints, the crown of thorns and other relics too numerous to mention. There is too, something marvellously quixotic about devoted pilgrims on the camino earnestly contributing their taxes to their respective country's nuclear arsenals. Nonetheless, and despite this, if you want good, reliable, accurate and concise guide to the caminos, Brierley's are hard to beat....

Alli: Maps were good, it was helpful to have the list of albergues (and prices and numbers) and restaurants, especially. The incline/decline maps seemed a little off sometimes, but overall it was a good general guide. Kind of bulky, so I ended up keeping it in the bottom of my pack and just reading& taking photos of the book each day based on what I planned to walk. Sometimes the instructions were vague or confusing, but there were normally people around when I felt like I was going astray. Bummed that the Finisterre guide is not included in this one, but I guess it’s a better money maker to try to make people buy 2 guides... just a lot of space/weight in the bag to have 2!
