Great for sun and rain. They are pretty light to carry, similar to a bag chair. Easy to assemble and put back in the bag. I recommend them to everyone who asks. When it’s really windy they can get caught by the wind, a foot (or heavy purse/backpack) set on the base solves that problem.

Amazon Customer: if You are reading this you are like me and you are reading reviews to see if this product is a good buy. If you are like me and want a fast effective shade solution for kids sports or the beach this is it. It really is so easy to set up and put away. Two pieces. The base just spreads out like a tripod and the umbrella slides right in with two dials that tighten the umbrella to the right height. The umbrella is perfect for two people to sit under and have great shade or protection from rain. Now the best part. When I set my Joe shade Umbrella up for the first time I noticed a small rip in the corner. I was bummed and this sometimes can happen from shipping. The next day I decided to try contacting the company. Found their info on their website and sent them an online email explaining the rip. No joke, within 5 minutes I got a call back from Dave who said he was the owner of Joe Shade and personally apologized for the rip I encountered and said he would have another one shipped out two day mail. I provided my order number and confirmed my shipping address and it arrived yesterday. It is one thing when a product delivers as promised but it is something...

C.P.: I purchased this umbrella almost 2 years ago now. I have taken it to many a soccer and baseball game, and have it in the car at all times now even when we are just going fishing or even to someone's house for a BBQ. It is that handy. It has worked to cover our coach of our team when it was raining (not raining heavily, but heavy enough to be getting the coach wet and the playbook wet...this joe shade stopped that) the coached loved it...since it can be expanded up for the standing position, he just kept under it when he could with the book and then ran out when the kids were back to batting and he was needed by the pen. We also belong to a pool club and they just recently added big umbrellas over some of the chairs...if you don't get one of those chairs though, you are SCREWED and are baking in the hot sun the entire time by the pool, which really is annoying. This gem has been our lifesaver. I take it with us EVERYTIME we go to the pool.... I never leave it at home. My husband and I never have to worry about beating someone out for a chair with shade anymore. And putting it in between two chairs keeps it pretty sturdy and it hasn't fallen over on us yet...

Pat: Balcony needs shade in the afternoons from about April through October. I need something big enough, but not too big, portable, manageable. I can move this as needed. Setup was easy.

This is one of those you-get-what-you-pay-for purchases. The somewhat fragile stand and ribs are not made for permanent installation and heavy wind. I just want to block the western sun off this balcony. It's somewhat sheltered from wind. Right now there's a breeze that flaps the fringe pretty well, and the stand isn't budging.

I dropped a star because of the delicate hardware, but that may not be fair. It's a good value. Oh, and this is Arizona high country. Serious sun.
