rachelle1234: We are offgrid and have to use a generator on bad weather winter days. We had to get a new generator and placed in front of the house initially. I wasn't paying enough attention to where the exhaust was pointing. I tried to angle it away from the house as much as possible, but the AC (30A) cord was stretched to it's max.
Was home alone not feeling great and the alarm placed up high above the propane powered furnace went off LOUDLY. I checked it out and it was around 90 ppm, so I immediately turned off generator and vented the whole house.
Ends up the generator exhaust was making it's way into the exterior dryer vent. I felt dumb and grateful for this device. I like the measurement to help me know how long to vent fresh air. Some devices don't have a numerical display - I found it helpful.
We had an experience where we left our guinea pig with another family while we traveled for the summer a few years ago. They guinea pig passed away of Carbon Monoxide poisoning but saved the family's grandmother as an indicator. So we take the risks seriously.

rocky: Seems simple enough and I like that it’s portable and I can bring it on my travels. The battery sucks, so I take a star off for that reason.

Mr. Carver: Well, can't really say how well they work at measuring carbon monoxide. Apparently my bedroom and my basement have no carbon monoxide at all. Let's hope they're working well.

Very easy to set up. Two minutes and they were up and running. I do have two little gripes. One, the display toggles between temperature and carbon monoxide concentration. I'm not really interested in the temperature. Just show me the carbon monoxide. And why do we have to have the little green light that flashes every 17 seconds? Just to show that the batteries are still working? Well, that's fine, but in the middle of the night when I'm trying to sleep that little light is blinking. Finally had to put a piece of tape over it. Why not just a little buzz or something when the batteries start to die, especially if they really last as long as advertised.

✨FancyRat✨: The CO alarm doesn’t have anything to set up. Two alkaline batteries were already placed inside and it says on the top back to replace it 7 years after the production date. There is a manufacturing and replacement date clearly visible on the label. I see just one button that serves to silence an alarm or initiate a test. The one line LCD display alternates between the current value of CO in ppm and the current temperature in Celsius. I didn't find a way to convert the temperature unit to Fahrenheit but I don’t care much as I bought it as CO alarm anyway. I can set it on a flat surface and it will stand or I can hang it on the wall as it has two mounting holes. I performed a few tests during the two months I’ve owned it. However, to put the alarm to a real test, I placed a smoking piece of cardboard inside a clear container along with the CO alarm and covered the container. At first, the container began to fill with thick smoke, then the alarm sounded. It’s much louder than when I press on the test button and I could see a reading of 999 ppm. The display didn’t alternate, showing only the CO value. I removed the alarm from the container and it took a full seven minutes...
