Julie: Another great book by Cathy Glass. It was such a sad story not just for Jamey but his mum, too. Although it was upsetting, it has a lovely ending. Well worth a read.

Janie U: I'm gradually working my way through the Cathy Glass books although I suspect she is writing them faster than I am reading them!!
The first question is when the story is set. I can see a mention of lockdown on the back of this book though so it's a recent one.
There are 306 pages split into 29 chapters, The book was first published in 2022.
Jamey's story is far too familiar, having a mother who is unable to prioritise his care above her addictions and then lying about it. As commonly happens, the mother isolates herself from supportive friends/family so the only viable option is for a child to go into foster care.
Whilst Jamey hasn't suffered a huge traumatic event, the lack of basic care has left him damaged and under developed. It's a joy to see, through Cathy's eyes, him starting to respond to being looked after.
CG is so straightforward and she describes emotions in such an uncomplicated manner, allowing space for a individual to react in their own way. She is grieving for her mother and that grief is allowed to exist very naturally alongside the rest of life's events.
Her descriptions of the ordinary detail in her life are a stabilising influence on awful...

rossc58945: Even during COVID children need taken care of. Unfortunately the needs increased. Cathy had Jamey but also took in two siblings for a while. Love reading Cathy’s true stories.

Shelby: Once again Cathy has written an amazing book. Jamey was such a lovable boy and I could see how difficult it is to give him up to a forever home.

Samantha Carlson: As always when first reading one of Cathys books, I feel as though I am coming home when I start that first page and am welcomed back into her home and her life. Her love and passion for the world of fostering and the children who come into her care shine through in her latest book Neglected, which is of course, beautifully written.

T. :): Yet another of Cathy's well written books. Sad as it was, she holds your attention & makes you feel as though you are there. I have read all of Cathy's memoir books & that I do believe is a first! I don't think I've ever been that pleased with any one Author enough to purchase ALL of their books. The only bad part is, that Cathy can't write fast enough to keep up with our interests in her stories. After reading her well written books, I will be in a delima to find another author to interest me, while I wait for the next book to come in September. Great job Cathy! Keep them coming!!

Martha A. Hill: A good book about a little neglected 2 1/2 year old boy that doesn’t talk at all. His name is Jamey and his mummy was a drug addict that didn’t talk to him or take proper care of him. He was still in diapers and didn’t know how to eat regular food or how to feed himself. His foster care mom gets him to eating, talking and walking more normal. A good read that involved a foster family.
