Kathleen McGowan: Engaging and informative book that everyone who cares about our world and environment should read. I will be recommending it to all my friends.

Kindle Customer: When I began reading this book I had my reservations. I usually read a lot of history books and mysteries. The more I read the more it grew on me. It is written well and I never lost interest. I now know much more about farming than I had previously known. I am pleased that I stuck with it.

jm: I thought I knew all this, so I was reluctant to read it at first. I buy organic, I buy local when I can, I tend to eat little meat... but this book opened my eyes to more. I never quite appreciated the need for smaller, more diverse, less-intensive farms and all the reasons they are critical to our lives. This book changed the way I think about agriculture and land use, and where I buy my food. (And the writing is beautiful, so it's a pleasure to read.)

Christopher Quimby: Thought provoking examination of big ag vs the obstacles facing small farms. Witten from a personal family perspective and the generational differences in how farming is perceived. It was somewhat redundant but the ecological impact of mono agricultural farming was both enlightening and disturbing. Highly recommended. I sent a copy to a gentlemen farmer friend

rochelle: A beautiful reflection on our relationship to the land and how significant it is to our survival both physically and spiritually. The field feeds us but won't forever if we don't care for it in a sustainable way. Such a profound memoir, including three generations' perceptions on how best to be caretakers of a sustainable lifestyle.

margaret spore: Really nails the importance of traditional farming vs agri-business and tells a powerful story of the authours evolution from pro-modernizing to a dawning awareness of the pitfalls that modernization creates for small family farm. He speaks with the wisdom of several generations of UK farmers; the passing on of knowledge he received from his grandfather and the way he passes knowledge onto his own children - shwoinghis daughter how to birth a lamb, for example - infuses the book with a personal touch that humanizes the social message. HIghly recommended.

Amazon Customer: James Rebanks is a gifted story teller. His very personal story and connection to his farm is both poignant and cautionary. I found myself reading parts of this book aloud to my wife, and deeply moved by his expressions of connectedness to the land. Full disclosure. I’m a farmer. I raise cattle and am attempting to do it sustainably. James articulated much of what I feel as I find myself sometimes a lone voice against the simple solutions on climate change by switching to plant based diets and the push to larger and larger farms. His expressions of connectedness to the land moved me. Beautifully written.
