K. McDonough: My grandson loves this book. At just 4 years old, he's already becoming quite the bird watcher. Fun to bring along on any adventure. You never know when a new bird will show up. Great info on each bird.

We have the same books for Wisconsin and California as well. Highly recommend.

Mike m.: I’m very happy with this. Its wonderfully organized and the pictures included are very high quality. It does a great job explaining the features of each bird and it includes so much more information than I expected which is awesome. Overall very satisfied with my purchase and will enjoy learning from the book.

Hither 'n Yon: This book was most helpful in identifying the birds that came to my feeders. When we traveled I eventually had to also purchase the Audubon reference book. I really prefer this book. It is easier to find the right bird in the GA book than the Audubon one. Not perfect, but easier. Sometimes it was difficult to find the right category when the bird was colorful. Since I like it so much it was easy to choose this one as a gift for my daughter (54 hrs old) who for the first time in her life has room, time, and the perfect outdoors to have bird feeders. She was thrilled to receive it.

M4: This is a review of the Birds of Illinois Field Guide published in 2000. I purchased this book back in 2009 and still use it as a resource ten years later.

Pros: The book is organized first by color and then by size. To me, this is the quickest way to identify a bird. If you see a small bird with patches of red, start at the beginning of the red bird section and page forward until you can identify your bird. Good quality color photographs. Short, descriptive entries including time of year most likely to see birds and whether more common to back yards, meadows or woods. Includes helpful paragraph on similar looking birds the bird in question might be confused with. Helpful in that female and male have separate entries based on color.

Cons: There are some birds seen regularly in Northeastern Illinois, such as the Bobolink, that don't have entries in the book. This guide may also be too simple for experienced birders.

I highly recommend this book for beginning/general birders and those looking for a quick color reference guide.

Gordon C.: I searched for birds of Armenia and Georgia and this came up. There was no mention that it refered to somewhere in the USA and not the country of Georgia. Nice book but totally useless to me. Can you be more specific with your descriptions please. Anybody want to buy a book cheap?

mama doodles: This is a great book! When you're birdwatching, sometimes you have only a very brief time to view the bird & identify it (before it flies away)- so you need a book that you can use quickly. This book is organized by the bird's color - just flip to the section marked in that color, and then narrow down the search by the bird's size. Each section starts with the smallest bird of that color and ends with the largest. Birds with large color differences between male/females are listed separately in the appropriate color section. If there are several birds that are often mistaken for one another, the book notes that as well - and tells you what features to look for to distinguish them. It only lists birds found in Illinois, so there's no extraneous information to sort through. I've been able to identify every bird at my feeder using this guide so far! I love the checklist at the end of the book - I use it to keep track of the birds I've seen in my yard.
