I didn’t soak it for two hours and it still worked amazing the second it was in the tank. I have them hooked up to 40 gallon air pumps. Andrew: I primarily use this in a 5 gallon tank with African cichlid fry to get a little more air flow for them to stay healthy. I have it hooked up to a large air pump, but I'm running several other things from it including an adjustable valve to control air flow. You don't need a very powerful pump at all to get the desired effect from this air stone.
It produces a large amount of small bubbles for a solid couple of weeks, then as it gets filled with minerals from the harder water and algae it diminishes slightly. After a few weeks it still works better than any other air stones, the bubbles are just slightly larger.
A 30 minute soak in very light vinegar or peroxide and water with a quick scrub and it's back to its original state.
The suction cups it came with are cheap and failed pretty quickly, but I didn't buy it for its suction cups. Not a deal breaker at all.
Highly recommended for fry OR to help airate excess ammonia from a tank. Sometimes I switch it to the back compartment of my 15 gallon to aid with this and it clears up the ammonia in a day.

laomo: After reading some other positive reviews, I have concluded that much with these Hygger pumps is in the ear of the listener. I find them too noisy, and too much noise in the aquarium is unacceptable. I have found all "nano" air stones to be noisier than the traditional ones. If I were a scientific researcher, I would secure funding to compile data, but all I can leave you with is anecdotal evidence, my experience. The bubbles are pretty, but I am unwillingly to exchange the contentedness of my two goldfish for viewing pleasure. After all, I'm around for an hour or two gazing at them and making chirping noises. They have to live in the tank, and I want it to be as quiet as possible. So it's the good old, tried and tested giga stones for me.
It pains me to leave anything negative about any product made by Hygger. In my estimation, it is one of the most venerable brands out there, sharing top rank with Eheim. (My 4-star rating is out of respect for the brand.) The air pumps Hygger makes are absolutely the best. Solid and quiet and powerful. I highly recommend them. kism: When I first got this bubbler I was excited and put it into the aquarium to soak as instructed. After leaving it in the aquarium overnight I attached it to the pump and it did not work(sad face). I left it in for a day and it did not work. Purchased a pump for a 100 gallon aquarium and behold it worked. I had had a pump for a 75 gallon aquarium. Now my turtle loves having a bubble bath and reorganizing her aquarium. I love these bubblers and recommend them to anyone with a larger pump.

Pete17: When its new the bubbles are very fine, now a month old, the bubbles are less fine, algae in the surface, maybe the cause. Its a good airstone whatever.
