P Chamber: For anyone looking for a good, simple financial calculator, let me tell you that the 10bii Financial Calculator is the best buy I’ve made so far during my college tenure. I purchased the 10bii Financial Calculator ($29.99) because it is essential for calculating financial questions correctly in my Personal and Family Finance class.
Capabilities:
• Factors that influenced this buy for me were the depreciation functions that enable quick calculations of asset values, statistical data entries, regression options and as well as the unlimited frequency of cash flow and statistical calculations.
• Breakeven quantity calculation makes for easy determinations of estimated profit. Amortization and time value of money functions make calculations for loans and mortgages quick and easy.
• The fast processor delivers immediate results and eliminates the waiting on complex calculations to configure.
• The 10bii is also suitable for seven other different areas of use besides finance; these areas being business, accounting, real estate, math, banking, statistics, and science.
• The college-friendly price of $29.99 made a lot of sense for all of what I was getting...

Mr. J: I have been using HP financial calculators for roughly 25 years. Started out with the 17bII. Moved eventually to the 19b. And until my most recent purchase used a 20b. To be honest, most of the capabilities of all of these calculators are overkill for me. I am an investment manager, but to the extent I ever need a lot of horsepower I inevitably turn to Excel. So, for me, the extent of my handheld calculator needs are basic arithmetic, an occasional cash flow calculation (NPV, IRR), and some basic statistical work. What is absolutely essential for me is the calculator build quality; in particular, the quality of the keyboard. The 17bII and 19b were decent units. However, I had reliability problems with the 17bII (went through three of them...keyboards got sticky on two of them over time). The 19b had an absolutely beautiful keyboard...best tactile feedback ever, no clicking, etc., but the damn thing was just too large when spread out, and when I folded the left hand panel underneath the calculator didn't sit perfectly flat on my desktop. This was annoying, as it rocked back and forth every time I hit a key. On the plus side, the menu-driven interface on both the 17 and 19 were...

Mike K: I purchased this on Mar 10,2014, for a Finance class starting on April 7th, by the time the class started and calculator was being introduced in class the third week, Apr 21st, I discovered I can not reset the # payments per year (xP/YR) thereby rendering this calculator unusable for its intent. When you clear all memory the one value that is still set is the default 12 for xP/YR.
I also found out Amazon has a 30 day return window. I can not return the calculator even though I just now started to use it.
I was stuck needing a functional calculator, like right now, so I made another purchase of a more expensive calculator - HP 17Bll. That calculator is supposed to be the best of the best.
I have to eat crow here...this is UE (user error) on my part. Below is a heads up for someone who may run into same learning curve as I did on setting the xP/YR on the HP 10bII.
Now after reading the Users Guide for a lengthy period of time, I see now that to set the default number of payments of 12 to another value (xP/YR) is set with the pink lower key then P/YR. Example if making one lump sum per year: enter 1, then lower pink key the PMT for the lower value P/YR. This sets...
