Kayla: I'm a little conflicted with this book. It's a great book if you are looking to start learning cords as the book slowly progresses through many cords and builds on them. I'm conflicted because I spend some time hyper focused learning about music theory and root notes prior to its arrival. Here is the deal, the book starts you off with a few cords (ex: C major) but doesn't explicitly state it is omitting parts of the cord. This had me confused until I googled the actual cord and seen that they are only showing a part of the full cord. (the root note cannot be G if the cord is a C major ((it has to be C))). Then I got over to the next set where they begin to show some sheet music next to the cord and it doesn't seem that the sheet music they are showing represents the cord that they are expecting to be played... which is confusing. Perhaps later in the book things begin to clear up, I wont give up on it as I want to learn cords as well but the start has be a bit worried about methods.

breanna: I decided to pick up gutair again (I had played a little bit several years ago but I wasn't any good) and got this book so I could learn and help my daughter practice her gutair. I learned a ton!

However, I was a professional musician and made a full time living with the military for a few years. I might be more prone to understand and pick things up. I typically can teach myself to play instruments. I was able to go through all the lessons (100+) in a few days. My perspective may be different than someone who doesn't have much musical or any musical experience.

My only complaint is that I have a hard time understanding the barre chord section of the book. I wish the chord progressions for the songs had the tab for the chords on the same page so I didn't have to flip back and forth so much. They'd spread it out. One page you learn the chords, a fe lages later you use the chords in a song and then later on play the individual notes. So there'sots of flipping back and forth.

Overall, I had lots of fun with this book and felt confident enough to order other books to help me build my skills as well as tab books for ACDC, ZZ Top, and Queen.

Glenn: Good book but not as "beginner" as I would have liked. To me me it's leaning more towards intermediate.

Doozy.kaboo: This book is very good, a thorough introduction to learning to play the guitar with 0 experience! Coming from a classical piano (intermediate level) background, this book is quite easy to follow, intuitive if anything. When I was playing worship piano (urban Black gospel, CCM [Contemporary Christian Music] songs), for the various churches, I often struggled to follow along the guitar chords that the keyboardists were expected to know and have an understanding of, since a lot of today's Christian worship music is mostly guitar driven. I chose to take it upon myself to learn the guitar, in order to have a better understanding of how chords work. In classical piano, you follow the sheet music and play it EXACTLY as it is written, finger numberings and all. However, classical piano DOES NOT teach you how to improvise, and that is where I encountered difficulty in following along with the worship music lead sheet that was given to me during the worship rehearsal practices. I hope that having a basic and working knowledge of the guitar will help me to understand how to play the modern church music songs that have become so commonplace. Highly recommended book for everyone, regardless of...

Mike: Very well written and easy to understand book. I bought it but had to return it. I consider myself a beginner but this book is too basic for me. I already know most if not all the theory stuff this book has. The songs are what new to me, however, there is no music sheets. I cannot learn the songs if they have no music notes or tab. Many of the songs in the book I don't know how they go. I understand the legal/copy right stuff there is if they put the music sheets in there but at least have the tab if you expect people to learn how to sing the songs.

Mohon Paul: The book is good, but not great either for absolute beginners. May be I can manage with this book, but lots hard work needed to perfectly master guitar
