LavPebblesLavPebbles: I forgot that I have given my niece this book years ago as a Christmas gift, so when I was at their house one weekend and tried to play from it, I quickly ordered one for myself.

After realizing that adult beginners should practice playing by using chords, a light bulb came on as I figured this book out. Some people are saying there’s no bass clef notes. True, but it’s all in chords to make playing supposedly easier. I wish it would still show the notes, so that we can learn to read music as well.

I also noticed that they mislabeled the C chords. C chords is the first thing you learn as a beginner (CEG), but on some pages it is showing as EGC. Is that still a C chord? As a beginner I don’t know, but everywhere on Google it is showing as CEG. I would recommend going through the book to relabel the chords if they are incorrect, so that you do not continue learning with the wrong names of the chords.

The song selection is nice, but I wish Mary Poppins’ Feed the Birds was in it (one of Walt Disney’s favorite’s songs). You also do not get the full songs, but just enough to learn as a crowd pleaser.

I would not show this book to a kid learning...

cricket thaxter: i am an absolute beginner and am teaching myself to boot, this book is so amazing and has such good songs. It is a lot of fun and a great learning tool as well.

LP: My grandson is 10 and recently started playing a small organ that belonged to my grandmother. He had been playing songs out of an old beginner piano book I had. He loves to be able to play some songs that he's familiar with. It's a great book for beginners. Not a struggle for him to play like some music books.

TrischTrisch: I think this is a great beginners book. It is really easy to follow along, having the letters written in the notes.

This isn't a book you put in front of someone who has never played at all, unless you have the notes written on your piano keys (like one of those neat silicone key cheaters). In order to be able to play from this book, you will need to know where your notes are on the piano. But if you can find your way around each octave above and below middle C, you'll have no problem with this book.

Jonathan: The songs seem a bit over simplified and some are only portions of the songs.

Still a decent option for kids just learning piano.
