Greenworks G-MAX 40V 16" Cordless Lawn Mower with 4Ah Battery and Smart Cut Technology

TheDeans: I bought this mower 9 YEARS ago. I was surprised to see it still sold but it’s a solid product so I guess it makes sense. I use it to mow my grass through spring, summer and early fall and then i switch it over to leaf mowing/collecting duty into early winter (we have a lot of trees). All in all it gets used most weekends for 8 months out of the year. The only maintenance it’s needed was a blade sharpening every other year and it’s worked flawlessly for, by my rough math, about 300 mowing sessions.
Here comes the downside to electric mowers, the battery. When it was new it could easily mow my entire lawn on a single charge, it has struggled with this over the past few years, depending on how long the grass is and how often I have to start and stop to empty the bag. I usually have to borrow the little battery from my leaf blower to finish the job. That leaves me with a dilemma, buy a new (very pricey) battery for my perfectly good but aging mower in the hopes it will last another 9 years, or upgrade to an 80v mower.

Patty Williams: I ordered the 16" 40V mower not knowing what to expect. I had always used a self-propelled gas mower. It arrived and I assembled it in just a few minutes with no trouble at all. And then I put the battery on charge and I noticed the red light was flashing. It didn't charge. I contacted the company and was put on a will call line which I never received back. Later I contacted customer service with Amazon and they said they couldn't replace the battery, only the company could. If the mower didn't work just send it back for a replacement they said. So I did, no problem since I am Prime it was no cost. I received the new mower a few days later and was able to use the mower the next weekend. The mower is extremely quiet and doesn't sound like it's cutting very much but it does. It does a fine job. I have a relatively small front/side yard and small back yard so it should do just fine for me. The battery seems to hold up great. One thing I noticed was if it reached a heavier section of grass it would speed up to accommodate the heavier cut. It's new so I love it so far. Jerry D: This is a great mower for trimming around the house before or cleaning up after a larger mower. It is narrow, light, can be height adjusted on the fly and can reach the places a heavier mower would need considerable strength and stamina with minimum effort. The slow startup cycle is a great safety feature as well as if the bail is released the blade stops immediately. The feature that allows the mower to "idle" until it starts engaging the grass works very well. It allows me to reach places that I used to have to weed eat because of slope or tight fit. It is virtually maintenance free and easily folds down for compact storage. It is light enough the built in handle lets most people carry the whole thing and put it away. I got this mower largely in part because I have two existing Greenworks tools that use a smaller but interchangeable battery.
I looked at a lot of reviews about the 40v battery. This one holds a charge well and charges relatively quickly. It has very good staying power and does not tail off too much before low voltage shutdown occurs.
