Kindle Customer: Great watch, good battery

Approvato!!!

EAEA: This watch is really great. Much better than expected. I bought it to track trail runs since I am starting a more ambitious training plan and it has been great.

The GPS and altimeter are very accurate. I have a handheld garmin gps unit and the readings the watch gets are almost exactly the same.

The heart rate monitoring is also excellent at rates below 160 (I haven't gone above that in my training plan yet. I will update the review if there is anything unexpected at higher heart rates.) It's actually better than a polar chest strap monitor I have which takes about 10 min to 'warm up' before I get accurate readings. It is also better than the heart rate monitor on the fitbits my kids have (inspire hr and charge 4) I especially like the function where you can set it to alert you at a certain heart rate or heart rate zone during exercise.

The watch does not have a touchscreen, and is operated by buttons on the side. I really like this because I can operate it with big gloves on when it is cold out. It is also very lightweight for the size and the band is comfortable. The sync is easy and fast to my pixel phone. Much better than the sync for fitbit. It also seems...

Frank Z: I personally am a big fan of the Garmin Fenix line. I started with the Fenix 2, moved on to the Fenix 3HR, then the Fenix 5X, and now the Fenix 5X Plus. Although the Fenix is a great line of watches, they are pretty costly and they're also a heavy watch. Those two factors make me wary of using them as my everyday watch, despite being very rugged.

So instead, I was looking for a "daily driver" watch that had a subset of the features of the Fenix line that I wanted to use every day. Things like, heart rate monitoring, activity tracking, on the fly workout if I didn't have my full kit (I also have a heart strap and run dynamics with my Fenix), etc.

The Garmin Instinct has all that and more! If I were to compare, it's very close to the Garmin Fenix 2 with the monochrome screen, very long battery (a feature I miss in the newer Fenix models), workout tracking, etc with the added plus of the heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking. Although the sleep tracking isn't as good as some other brands I've used, it's usable as a rough analysis. The Instinct doesn't support run dynamics like the new Fenixes do but neither did the older Fenix 2 so it's not a huge loss.

mabuse: I've owned numerous Garmin GPS exercise watches for running, biking, hiking, etc. over the past 20-or-so years. This is by far my favorite after about 4 weeks of intensuive use. I'm an old, old, old runner/climber who still trains on a daily basis. I don't need professional grade performance monitoring, but I still appreciate relatively accurate and consistent data feedback. Relative simplicity of use is really important to me (I hate standing around by the side of the road endlessly dicking with my watch -- see Suunto sports watches). This watch is essentially perfect for my needs and my level of training. It falls nicely in between the Fenix/Tactix (too high end, too expensive) and the Forerunner 35 (a really good, really simple, and reliable intro running watch). I have been particularly impressed with the improved battery life and recharging times with this watch. They are almost unbelievable! This extended battery life means that I can actually treat the Instinct as a 24-hour mostly everyday watch. Given my usage rates (2-3 hrs. of daily GPS, 5-6 times a week) I can recharge the bugger during the time it takes for a leisurely shower. This means I can now actually take...
