Flowtron BK-40D Electronic Insect Killer: Protect Your Outdoor Space with 1 Acre Coverage

TALLgrumpy: my neighbor had horses and a Flowtron in their barn for 20 years. I heard their Flowtron zapping flys constantly day and night for 20 years. When my family moved away that Flowtron was still working day and night so I bought 4 of these myself when they went on sale ( usually in Autumn ) I own 2 of the 1 acre units, and 2 of the 1.5 acre units and they all work great. I have them on smart plugs so they only come on after the sun goes down. You will need an extension cord as the cord is only 6-12 inches. For wall mounts the SB-300 bracket is affordable, sturdy, and nice looking.

Sassy and Oliver: I love this bug zapper. So much easier to blow out the bugs than with other brands I’ve purchased because of less plastic framing and such to get in the way. I use a small lightweight leaf blower to blow out the dead bugs. It’s powerful and attracts a lot of bug, and the only sound is the sizzle of frying bugs. And boy does it attract and kill the bugs. A real workhorse!

NOTE: I went ahead and purchased extra bulbs to have them on hand if needed in the future. You never know when something like that becomes discontinued and you can no long buy it down the road when you need to replace a bulb. I intend to also buy some spare “starter” bulbs too. (That is something that makes the unit operate, as opposed to the big bulbs that attract the bugs. I believe it’s found under the top cover.)

RTPMasonRTPMason: This bug zapper is the best I've ever had! I bought it in spring 2021, and use it almost year round.

We live in NC, and spend a lot of time outside on the deck all year long. There are bugs from about February through November, and when they come out, we plug this in. More importantly, we have just left it sit out the whole time! It hasn't degraded due to the elements, and works to this day!

I turned it off for the picture above because the camera couldn't do a good job on the picture with it on. One of our fire pits fell apart in under 6 months of light use (Summer - Fall). Our patio furniture lasted almost 2 years before they started breaking and falling apart. Granted this is a completely different thing than a fire pit or outdoor furniture, but I didn't expect it to last much more than a year.

I'm just saying that I am very impressed with this bug zapper and highly recommend it!

James A. Felt: I don't know ow the science behind it, but the bugs in CA seem to be much more into the purple shades of bug zippers than the less purple and more neutral tones of this one. It works well, but not as well as some of the others I've tried or tested. This thing is very large with a very short cord, so make sure you have an extension cord. It's made to be hung outside, not placed down inside, so be aware if you're looking for something more versatile, this has a singular proper use. You CAN use it indoors, but you'll want to put a plate under it for easy clean up.

GRAHAM P.: This product is not suitable for UK 240 volts, which it does not say in the product information. And despite being sold at a UK £ Price.

The product is also poor quality being made primarily of cheap plastic.

Although the suppliers 'Covent Garden' who it turns out are a US company promptly repaid only the purchase price when I complained and returned the product it still cost me £45.38 in postage.

Avoid this product if you are in the UK and want to use with UK voltage.

nicholas keeny: I am incredibly disappointed with the flowtron bug zapper. I bought it because of the product claim that the flowtron BK-40D would annihilate 99.9% of all mosquitoes (plus a ton of other bugs), living in/located within/or just having the unfortunate luck of being in the full acre surrounding the flowtron. We have two acres, so I thought this would be the perfect weapon to fight the hordes of mosquitoes that unfortunately infiltrate our property each year. I figured I’d get two and that would take care of our entire property. HOW EXCITING 🤗!!! However, I was at least smart enough to just try one flowtron to begin with until I got a real understanding of how the thing worked, and to obviously get some first-hand experience before completely falling for the hype. (I should also mention that this zapper also promised some other “to-good-to-be-true type things, but they mostly relied on purchasing some other accessories before they’d be proven to be true or (more likely) disappoint the masses.)
