Computer_Geek: For kids who love dog books, this is one of the best. Be sure to buy the version for children, not the adult edition, which has a similar cover. The BEST dog books ever written are in the four-book series SHILOH. Best cat books: (1) Whittington and (2) Crenshaw.

Jacquelyn: I love happy ending stories especially now in this day and age. It would be interesting to find out where she had come from originally and what really happened to her when she went missing but long story short, it all ended well.

PTP: I read the original adult version of this book and it is one of my favorites. I share the book often, but always ask for it back. I wanted to buy this version so this fall I can start reading it to an afterschool program. Love this version also. Looking forward to a film version which I understand is in the works!

Dustin B: My Son, 11 years old, absolutely LOVED this book. Always hard for him to get into reading (as it is with many young boys I think), but he LOVED it. He'd read a chapter or two and come tell me all about it.
What a great experience to read about and am so glad the author wrote this kids version!
I'm now looking for other dog/animal adventure non-fiction for him!

S Bouvier: Originally, I had planned on purchasing just the adult book and the children's picture book. Then I saw in an interview that the Young Adult version contains material that presents the story from Gobi's point of view. So of course, I had to read this version as well! And it did not disappoint. The book basically alternates between narrating the events in the third person, with shorter sections that describe what Gobi was seeing and thinking.
Like the adult version, this book takes the reader from the Gobi desert race, to Dion's decision to bring Gobi home, to her getting lost when he went back to Scotland, to the arduous process of finding her and bringing her back to the UK.
I think that having the Gobi-oriented sections makes the book that much more emotional. When I read about the difficult events in the adult book, naturally I was almost moved to tears. But having the extra paragraphs retelling the scenes from Gobi's point of view really tugs at your heart.
This book will also provide many opportunities for discussion between young adults and their parents or educators. First of all, there is the geography lesson. This story takes place on two different...
