GF: I have read some of the bad comments about this Squire Affinity “Stratocaster” and I didn’t want to buy it, but I saw an Amazon announcement that was selling a used one for 168$ and I decided to take the risk, since the guarantee was the same as a new one.
The guitar arrived the day after and looked brand new, besides the box that was been opened.
First problem: the 1/4” jack remained stock into the guitar. I had to dismount the 1/4” female Jack plate from the guitar and play around with the jack to fix it.
Second problem: the 5 way selector was starting to be faulty, working on and off and always more off than on. I had to loosen all the cords and take out the pickups and pots plate to reach the switch, open it and fix it. Because the little copper “wings” were all detached from the contact face and I had to turn them gently to restore the contacts.
Third problem: the strings, they were terrible quality, this is why was impossible to have the guitar tuned for more than fews “seconds”! But with some new strings the tuners works well enough for this “used”, but new guitar. I forgot that I had to smooth the frets sides, but since there are no...

fred carpenter: I had to file the frets all down cause they were so sharp they would cut the hand off you..Not too bad now for a beginner.

FretlessBob: Wonderful shiny new guitar! When it arrived, it was tuned _very_ sharp and the high E string was broken, but so what--we have spares. The frets were rough and needed levelling and polishing; the fret ends were acceptable and I'll deal with them over time. But the action (once adjusted) was just right, the nut was correct from the get-go, the neck is just right, and the pickups are great. The range of sounds is amazing, and the tonal distance from the front to the back pickup is very wide. I'm very happy and will probably stop buying guitars for a while... until GAS hits again.

Syrus May: These Squier series are great instruments and just need a little Tender Loving Care.
It comes with decent hardware and I'm really impressed with quality and improvements they made compared to the older models specially the new bridge and tremolo is very impressive.
Out of the box the trust rod was straight, the frets are levelled, the edge of the frets are not sharp and all I had to do was to clean the finger board because it was really dusty and tighten the machine heads.
Please note it's all about amplification and with the right setup there's no need to buy an expensive brand name guitars. A $5000 guitar with the wrong amplification is going to sound like a $100 combo pack.
On a second note. Mar.14/2021:
Fellows, there are dozens of tutorials on social media how to upgrade your Squier, though as an owner of some brand name Strats and three Squier Affinity strat Series it's just a matter of break in period of 30 to 40 days for your guitar to settle and after that it's not going to be a nightmare of going out tune issues.
Please note for beginner or intermediate performers it's during that break in period is where you will develop your skills to keep...

David Cloutman: I bought this guitar because I wanted a vintage surf sound from a surf green guitar. The pickups are ideal for that purpose, and if low fidelity is your thing, as it is mine, you'll love this guitar. On the other hand, if you want clear, crisp studio tone, look elsewhere. This setup is better for blues, pre-Beatles Rock, and Punk/Noise/Shoegaze/Experimental. That being said, I think it's a nice instrument at a reasonable price-point.
One really positive thing about this guitar (which earns it one extra star) is that the neck is smooth and feels good in my hand. I experienced no problems with rough fret edges and felt no need to take a file to my new instrument.
Note that THIS IS A SQUIRE guitar, which means it is a clone of the original Fender made by a Fender subsidiary using less expensive parts and a modified design. Many Fender parts may be compatible, but not all. While the guitar holds its tuning well enough that I would not relegate it to junk status, the tuning machines are fairly low quality and I look forward to replacing them soon. Similarly, the "nut" at the top of the neck is, as expected, so that will eventually be replaced as well.

Andrew R.: So I bought this guitar based on my experience with an Affinity Telecaster that I'd bought a couple years ago. THAT guitar was awesome for the price, and I expected the same from this Strat. I have several Strats American and Mexican and bought this Squire strictly for a community project I'm involved in. When this guitar arrived, the first thing I noticed is that one of the string trees was all bent out of shape. The setup on this thing was nonexistent. Strings after I put them under tension were against the frets all the way to the fourth. I had to do a full setup, having to use every millimeter of truss rod relief, as well as saddle adjustment way more than is normal. Even now there's buzzing at the first fret that can only be rectified if I breakout a file. I'm sending it back. Maybe I got a bad one, but if you're a beginner and don't know how to do a setup, or have ever done fret work, I wouldn't take the chance. A setup at a shop will cost you half the price of the guitar for f#&k sake. You can get this guitar at a guitar center for the same price already setup or at least playable. I'm very disappointed after having previously had such a good experience with the...

Aubrey Bryant: I've had the pleasure of owning and playing the Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster in Montego Black Metallic for a while now, and it has genuinely exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Here's why:
1. Playability: From the moment I picked it up, the comfort and ease of play stood out. The laurel fingerboard feels smooth under the fingers, allowing for effortless transitions between chords and fluid lead lines.
2. Durability: Despite regular use, this Strat has held up remarkably well. It's been a trustworthy companion, maintaining its integrity and tuning stability even during extended jamming sessions.
3. Weight & Comfort: The lightweight design is a blessing, especially during longer gigs or practice sessions. It sits comfortably against the body, reducing any strain on the shoulder or back.
4. Aesthetic Appeal: The Montego Black Metallic finish is nothing short of stunning. It gleams under stage lights and draws attention with its refined elegance. The photos online do not do it justice; it's a beauty to behold in person. I own several guitars and this one is the only one I've actually received compliments about.
5. Sound: Last but not...
