Rich: I’m not a beginner by any means but my 13 year old granddaughter is, so when it came time for her first electric, I had to see things through her eyes. Requirements? A smaller, lighter, slimmer body with a slightly shorter neck (however, a ‘mini’ kids guitar was out of the question), proper frets, and good (but not great) electronics. I happen to like the HH pickup configuration, so that was a nice plus. Oh, and the color. Let’s just say that the dark blue set my granddaughters heart racing. Once plugged in, I was sufficiently impressed. Through a small practice amp, it sounded quite nice and will keep her interested and practicing. Keep in mind that a string change would work wonders for this little guitar and a modeling amp versus a standard practice amp would definitely keep your future rock star rocking. All in all, a solid 5 stars!

AppleApple: Posed next to a red Strat for comparison. I’m saying this as someone who’s only been playing for a year, but I like to think I’ve gained a lot of experience in that time since I’ve more or less dedicated myself to guitar, and this Mustang plays better than any top-end custom I’ve ever gotten the chance to hold and noodle with. Smooth action, great neck for my baby hands, super easy to fret, and perfect out of the box— but the real show-stopper is just how light it is.
You could wear this around the house and not notice it; the way it’s shaped means that, once your strap is at the right height, this Mustang is as easy to play standing up as sitting down. I’ve never really had any guitar physically ‘lock’ with me like this one. I cannot recommend it enough. Strings are alright, even; just change them if you think they sound dead.

Restless Creative: Squier is Fenders consumer arm and this guitar is the one I imagine most people start their guitar journey with. The form factor, weight and feel are the same as a Fender Strat, so if that’s your end goal this is the guitar to start with. Very nice.

Rob: £120 for a really well set up guitar straight out of the factory. My last Squier strat (made in China) was horrendous compared to this Mustang (made in Indonesia), took hours of fiddling with truss rod, intonation, string height, etc, not to mention the all but useless tone & volume controls. No such problems with this little beauty (the finish IS beautiful). Quick tune up and ready to go. Didn't even have to change the strings, came equipped with the Fender strings I use and that I had ready to put on.
Positives - Flawless Body Finish (lovely sparkle blue)
No truss rod adjustment (perfect low action)
Spot on intonation and string heights.
Electronics that work well.
Pickups are pretty decent, lots of snarl and grunt (using this guitar through a Vox Amplug Blues headphone amp for noodling on and sounds great)
Nice solid weight (was expecting it to be a really light and flimsy guitar)
Cons - Small imperfections on neck and frets, nothing to hinder performance.
Frets need a little rub and polish
Fret ends a little sharp compared to more expensive guitar
Fingerboard needs some oiled and polished
All of these cons are to be expected at...

Mike: I've been playing guitar for over 40 years. I have a Les Paul and a Gibson Hummingbird from the 70's so I already own top end pieces. I wanted something I could play without worrying about dings, plus I wanted to do my own upgrades just for the fun of it.
I've read several reviews that criticize this guitar for plastic that is over the pick guard and includes a sticker to Fender's online lessons. This plastic is there to protect the guitar, you just lightly pull it off and underneath you will see a beautiful, shiny new pick guard. It's easier to get the plastic off with the strings off. You should change the strings on a new guitar anyway so this is a perfect time to take that plastic off.
Out of the box, I was amazed at how well it played. All I had to do was tune it. I was expecting to have to adjust intonation but it was darn near spot on so I didn't need to. But for a 125 dollar guitar the parts are darn good. The bridge is VERY easy to adjust the action and intonation and the changes hold, they don't slip out of tune when you hammer on it a little. I also changed the strings just because I like Ernie Balls but the strings that came with it were just fine until...
