I really like the grip and heft of this knife. It cuts bread effortlessly without smushing the bread!

Stevie Boy: The 14 inches works much better for bread than smaller ones. IMO, less of a chance for the knife to slip while cutting crusty bread and cutting your fingers with a smaller knife.

SmartWAshopper: This knife is AMAZING! I'm here looking for another for a gift and realized that I bought mine in 2017. I originally purchased this to cut through the sourdough rounds that my husband bakes, which is perfect for that task. I use it most frequently in the summer for cutting melons, especially watermelon. I don't have a knife, other than this monster, that I trust to not slip and cut myself when going into a large melon, or even a large squash. It's been more than 5 years and its as sharp as the day I received it. I love it! I'm back to buy another for a gift.

Amazon Customer: I make my own sourdough bread, not that I am patting myself on the back, but as with ANY homemade bread, getting even slices, or slices at all, can be challenging. I have recently bought one of those bamboo bread slicers and it is too small for the size of bread loaf I make, so I struggled with having to cut the loaves in half to fit into the slicer in order to get somewhat consistent slices. I purchased this knife with a recommendation from a professional cake decorator who swears by this brand. They were not lying! The knife works like a charm and I do not need a slicing guide because it cuts through so smoothly and evenly. Now I wished I did not purchase the bread slicer!

Susan McAlear: Very good product large enough to even cut through a cake if you want to divide it into two pieces. Slices the bread without any problems. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a large knife.

lewgarmas: I was looking for a long bread knife and it 'fits the bill.'
14" blade with 5.5" handle just fit in my drawer but I must put it in on an angle.
Cuts real well, balanced, cleans easily, very sharp.

Halcyon: Fourteen inches ... in the abstract it doesn't sound so big. It is big. It is sharp. When I have a large loaf of bread to cut, especially when it's on the soft side yet with robust crust, I bring out this knife and it does the job beautifully. The rest of the time, I use a 10-inch bread knife (that one's a Mercer, but based on the quality of this knife I wouldn't hesitate to get Fat Daddio's 10-inch model.) Why don't I use this knife all the time? Fear, mostly. I won't describe my self-wounding incident with this scimitar, but it was not pretty. I treat it with reverence and respect. Storing this huge knife is another issue. I saved the bubble card it came packaged in as a sheath. Anyhow, if you're baking big loaves of crusty bread, get this knife. It is indispensable. Give it a name and treat it with respect. It's a beautiful tool and a relative bargain.

Amazon Customer: This knife has some weight to it and is pretty awesome. The only tiny negative comment I have is that the blade just barely fits between the slats of my wooden bread slicer because it is thicker along the top of the blade but other than that, this knife slices like a pro.

L. A. Stanley: I bought this to cut homemade bread using the Bread Pal slicer: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005YCKRMU/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_21.
Even after reading the reviews I hadn't properly appreciated the sheer size of this knife until I opened the package. The "sward" jokes in other reviews make sense now! My husband's exact words on seeing the knife for the first time were, "Holy crap! That's a big knife!"
However, despite its size, it is lightweight, well-balanced, and very sharp. Using this knife and the Bread Pal, we can now slice our bread so neatly that it looks machine-sliced. No more crooked slices means we can use all of the loaf without waste. Based on the knife's performance cutting bread, I'm sure this knife will also be a great tool for leveling or layering a cake, but I haven't tried that yet.
The knife comes with a clear plastic sleeve for storage. However, this sleeve doesn't secure around the knife. (There is a strap with a snap closure, but the strap is too small to actually use - a design failure.) The knife just sits in the sleeve. This still provides some protection to you and your other items if you store the knife in a drawer. Which is...

kperkins: I already have a number of smaller bread knives but I got a special bread slicing stand that needed something longer. This was the only 14 inch knife I could find, and even though it's primarily for slicing cakes into layers, it works amazingly well on my sourdough bread. I feel I have a lot more control and am able to get much more even slices, even when doing it freehand, than I ever had with my smaller bread knives. I think the control comes from how wide the blade is. I don't know how long it will stay sharp but for now I can't think of a better knife for slicing bread.
