Farberware FCP240 2-4-Cup Stainless Steel Percolator

Sarah Godsave: Initially, I grew up on the Faberware percolator that my parents used in a larger container. I did not like the way it tasted when it sat warming but liked a fresh cup of brew. Keurg and drip brews do not get it is as well cooked as the percolator Faberware type. I have not tried other brands of percolators. The cord on this model was short. It was hard to plug in from the standpoint of ease for someone with weaker small womanly hands. There is no on/ off button. There is no indicator light. This is the no frills version of a good reliable brand that makes a good cup of joe if you like a strong cup. If you like light coffee this might be too strong for you.

VT10: I wanted to get away from using a drip coffee machine since with those there’s hot water running through a plastic basket which is toxic. After a lot of research I chose this one. It’s easy to use and makes good coffee. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons: I wish it had the ability to preset coffee the night before but that doesn’t seem like an option on any percolator. I also don’t like that the pot isn’t on a base that you can remove to easily clean without having to worry about getting the plug opening wet. It would be so much easier to clean if the pot could be separated from the plug opening and submersed in water.

It was hard to find a percolator that made 12 cups of coffee, most make less, so with this being the only option, it’s acceptable and I’d buy it again.

Caprican: I really wanted to like this being a percolator user for decades. I order a used 'like new' one, but it arrived more broken than 'like new' so I returned to get another new one. It does the job and makes a nice, hot, flavorful cup of coffee. It is easy to clean, although you end up cleaning it earlier than you think (see below). My problems with may just be my personal issues, idk.

1. There is no light. I knew this. But it sure would be nice to have especially when brewing process stops and then later when you glance from across the room and ask yourself, 'Did I unplug that thing?'

2. Getting the top off is not easy and hence I am afraid, in the not too distant future, the black knob will snap off. That's how hard it is to remove. There is no screw, it is welded on, so if it breaks, there is not solution other than to somehow buy another whole top, or pry it open with a tool. Neither solution is great.

3. Because the inner part of the spout is so close to the top , you really do have to remove all baskets before you start pouring. Otherwise you will be refiltering/brewing some of your coffee. The baskets are hot, drippy and before having a first cup of coffee...

Melanie L. Waidler: I just ordered another Farberware Percolator which will be my 2nd one in 43 years. The first one I had lasted about 15 years that I got back in 1982. Then when I wanted to replace it the prices were too high and I ended up getting a Kenmore perc from Sears which was also a good pot that lasted maybe only 13 years. When it went out I found another Farberware on sale so I bought it because it is my preferred coffee maker. It lasted about 13 years and we noticed that the heating element had melted parts of the bottom part of the percolator. Instead of replacing it we decided to just order a new pot because the plastic had 3 holes melted into it on the sides of the black bottom part of the pot. I love this coffee pot for the taste of the coffee because it's much better and has a richer taste to me than drip coffee and the speed at percolating which is about a minute per cup is also good. The ONLY thing I don't like about the pot is that it doesn't keep the coffee as hot as when it's first finished brewing but maybe that's a safety feature, I don't know. But, if I let my coffee sit too long in the cup and add to it from the pot I still have to heat it up in the microwave because what...
