Art the Science Guy: This is a very handy tool to have in your tool bag. It's the easiest way to identify "live" wires- common and load and is small enough to go anywhere. Having one of the test leads attached directly to the neon lamp is a plus as you can readily see it the moment it contacts the wire you wish to test. I was using a pigtail neon tester which eventually died after years of use and I had to look away from my test leads to see if the lamp was lit - this is better. For the money, it just can't be beat. For more intricate testing I use a digital VOM but for the easy stuff, this is smaller, lighter, less to carry and if I forget it at a job site it wouldn't be a big loss.

JVM: The leads are a bit too short to reach around a switch easily. A receptacle not so much as you can insert the leads directly. The technology (or lack of) makes it easy to understand...don't have to worry if it is on or the battery is charged, or if it is on the right function or range. It is small and worth having in your toolbox for the occasional need. If you need a tester for all day work I'd recommend something else.

unlisted: Works just fine, but as with all tester probes, you have to have the face toward you to see the light, and that's not always the way things work out. When they make one that allows you to clearly see the light from all directions, I'll give it 5 stars.

D. F. Forester: Simple to use, small so it does not get in the way. I had to trouble shoot some miss wiring in my home a while ago and this device worked handily. I had previously used a tester rated at 12 Volts, but when I shorted across 120V it got blown for good. This device can handle 220V no problem. Cheap and handy for home owners and handymen.
