TrueNorth: Should have paid more attention to the page count.
Pretty simplistic and I don't see the $ value.

Ed Barton: The Captivating History series go a little deeper than the Hourly History series, and that’s often a good second step in your knowledge ladder of a new historical topic. Generally well written, you get positive and negative perspectives on the Maya, as well as a great discussion on their language, history and culture. A good read.

leftlegge: Interest in history, probably curiosity relating to these ancient civilisations after watching some programs on aliens and the recent findings of similar relics all around the world that are puzzling. Wondering who was here before us?

D. Adams: This book is a very brief version of Mayan civilization. The book is very thin (149 pages) and small formatted, with just black and white photos. I is interesting, but if you are looking for a more comprehensive study, this is not the book for you. I recommend The Complete Illustrated History of the Aztec & Maya, by Charles Phillips. At over 500 pages, with hundreds of beautiful color photos, and extensive discussions of all aspects of both the Aztec and Mayan cultures, this is the book to own.

Mr David House: It was disappointing as I expected a more informative scrip especially bearing in mind the cost of the book. Also it was surprising to find at the end a list of internet references to log onto in order to find out more of the Mayas. Surely that was the whole purpose of the book. I had come back from a holiday in Mexico fired up to learn more about the Maya civilisation and I'm afraid this book did not do it for me. I shall go to my local library and find out more.

Muz: I don't know much about the Mayan civilization but the book is way too brief for someone ego wants to understand the institutions and the culture beyond basic. Now this might be forgiven in a book that's written for a certain type of audience but to pass over Guatemalan tragedy involving Mayans and Zapatista uprising as Mayans caught in between cross fire made me throw up a little bit in my mouth. If the author does not know enough or does not feel comfortable writing about these cases, he should not have even mentioned them.

Francisco Herrera: It is a short book but is interesting nonetheless. It gives you a quick look into the Maya civilization and explains it in a way that is fun and easy to follow.
