digipho: As a 72 year old, house bound, former traveler, Rick gives me the thrill of exploring again, even if it is just on the couch. All his books are wonderful. Giving us rich history, customs, food and people. If only all people were like Rich, we would be in a wonderful place.

Leslie Leyh: First this book isn’t a travel guide. It is a series of stories and experiences from Rick Steves from his years of travel. He describes places, people and circumstances that make his travel a story of “Travel Love”. Anyone who has traveled extensively will relate to the emotions and stories as the travel experience is similar to those with the travel bug. My wife and I are independent travellers who use Rick’s Travel Guides when we travel in Europe. We have found his guides to be the most helpful, thorough and accurate. This book though is a very enjoyable read. When not travelling this book will take you back to the places you enjoyed and entice you you to go to those you haven’t.

ASM: This book teleported me to all the countries that Rick visited. I've been to several of them and he was spot on for every destination. The pictures were also helpful and visually stunning. Can't wait to see the rest of Europe!

Liviu C. Suciu: As a generally big fan of R. Steves' travel guides of which I own a fair few, and in the current circumstances in which my last European travel was in the summer of 2019, I've been going on and off through some of those guides and related travel/coffee table books, so when I discovered this one, I immediately got it and read it.
While the material is collected from the many years of the author's travels, there are awesome pictures and his inimitable style which make his travel guides so good - at least as long as they match one's preferences of course as they are very opinionated and of course his opinion doesn't always match one's opinion - makes going through this book like reading a fast page turning novel and leads one to dreaming of better times ahead...
Highly recommended for anyone interested in European travel and a good introduction to Rick Steves' guide style for anyone who hasn't tried those before.

Donald Ciccone: First let me say, I've spent the last two decades meticulously following in the footsteps of Rick Steves throughout Europe and the British Isles. I've done this solo... just with his guidebooks. Never been on his tours. I had the great pleasure of finally running into him a few years back in Switzerland. This book is absolutely fascinating because it focuses on the people Rick meets on his travels, not just the places. Things he learns from speaking to people who live there... this is stuff you don't get from just sightseeing. A lot of times I found I had the very same experiences he describes so the book really struck a chord with me. Other times he'll describe something I wish I had experienced, and it only makes me want to go back. Every chapter has you thinking... there's a message in each little essay. This book brings back so many memories while at the same time giving me new things to think about.
