Julio Jimenez: My brother is very pleased with this gift

Scott J: I have two primary issues with this book but first I will mention the writing is outstanding, the authors clearly have a passion for wine (especially French), and their knowledge is impressive.

However, The Sommelier's Atlas of Taste does not contain maps. The term "Atlas" implies a book or a collection of maps and if that is what you are looking for you will be disappointed. Maps of the regions and pinpointing various vineyards and wine producers within those regions would have been awe-inspiring.

My second concern is everything but France is incomplete and an afterthought. There is a well thought out chapter covering Taste and Terrior which exposes the reader to the concepts. France is detailed with methodical precision covering 202 pages of the 345 pages. Italy is quite thin in comparision covering 46 pages and missing important regions. Austria, Germany and Spain all fall short in coverage.

If there were maps this book would have recieved 4.0 to 4.5 stars. Yes, I am keeping the item the writing is superb and it makes a nice coffee table book.

Eva L. Lopez: This covers wine from the taste perspective. Find a region, like Spain, a grape, like Rioja, and then the author teaches you like a sommelier as to the characteristics of smell and taste of the wines that come from the various areas and vineyards in that region. Very informative and easy to grasp the concepts. We have it on top of our wine cabinet for handy reference.

Danielle: This book was not quite what I had expected and I therefore returned it. The book, rather than provide information on wine regions in general seemed to focus particularly on various specific wineries of the regions discussed. Good, probably, for someone who has professional interests, but less edifying for someone whose interests are more general.

Pablo D Garcia: The book seems a bit elitist and aimed at beginner's. There is little discussion or insights in new regions or producers instead recommending well known and established producers. Raj 's favorite producers are well known to most people who spent a few hours to learn about wine and European wine in general. Perhaps there is nothing new or exciting under the sun and we need someone to tell us what we already know. Most expensive wine is better than cheap one.
Seriously, I liked the pictures but the content leaves quite a bit to be desired. The authors just glossed over Barolo, Etna, very little on Spanish regions, nothing on Greece, Croatia, Slovenia... don't know,, found the book lacking excitement and novelty factor.

Charles: In the middle of studying for my Court of Master Sommelier Exams and this book is simply a must for all people pushing their knowledge further. It covers all the major regions of France, Germany, Italy and Spain and goes into considerable depth regarding producers/vineyards and culture surrounding them. This is simply one to have for the serious wine professional.

Pezza Fina: Got this for my wine loving wife and she is obsessed it with. Great read for the wine lovers out there

Terence L.: I work as a sommelier in Midtown Manhattan and this is the single best resource I've found on the topic of wine. Extremely applicable to the products we sell with incredible comparative notes on the villages of Burgundy. Super user friendly and applicable. Incredible photography from the great estates and the writing is zippy and delicious! Superb.
