The World Atlas of Wine by Hugh Johnson is the perfect gift for any wine enthusiast. Featuring easy-to-read and easy-to-understand text, this book provides an in-depth look at wine regions around the world. From France to Italy, Australia to South Africa, this comprehensive guide is sure to satisfy any wine lover. With beautiful illustrations and detailed maps, this Atlas of Wine is sure to be a hit with any wine enthusiast.Salem: The book is not only informative but it's richly illustrated. It can be overwhelming for beginners, but if you've been bitten by the wine bug this is a mandatory book to know your wine because the wine is extremely linked to the place it was "born and raised". It even helps with your tasting when you know things like subregions, altitude, climate and soil.

Steve Z.Steve Z.: Why are so many people marking the review that roughly said the “pictures are small & Jancis’s prose is neutered” as helpful? It’s completely untrue.
They described themselves as having bought a first edition Wine Atlas in the 70s, which is probably why people thought it was credible. I don’t know if it’s a sense of nostalgia or diminished eye sight, but the Atlas is a huge book, and they haven’t gone and filled it with small pictures.
I’ve included a picture of a page I opened to randomly—burgundy. Note the tape measure. Note, too, that this is an overview province; each region within gets its own, equally huge, map.
The prose, also, is lively and engaging, while being more detailed than “windows” or “wine bible.”
Ignore that other review. I’m only writing this response because they had me on the fence, but when the book arrived, I could tell in the slightest what they were on about.

Alastair Mac Pherson: If you are planning to do level 3 WSET course I seriously recommend this book, but if you are interested in wines you can gain a tremendous amount of knowledge.
Documents how vineyards are built, how wine is processed, and good detail on all the different countries producing wine.

Jon K. Tedder: Love this book! Combines geography, history, and oenology. It also sprinkles in some geology, botany, and chemistry. So much good stuff in here it's hard to put down. Thank you, authors Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. A book worth well beyond its price!
