Ed From PHX: I enjoyed having this hatchet-axe as its a necessary tool to have when you go camping, hunting or for emergencies that happen unexpectedly.
The quality of the axe is great and I have used it to chop small sized tree limbs for fire wood. This particular axe is for small applications yet to each their own when it comes to making the best decisions you see fit for its use.
The company is reputable and if you do have any issues with it, call their customer service dept and they will do their best to help you as I've had family members who have owned their axes for many years (1970's).

Sanmar: I like Estwing hammers. Thought I would give this Hatchet a try. Just what I expected. It's great and priced right. I like the all steel Constuction. Tired of broken/loose axe handles. This tool gets the job done. The sheath that comes with it was not well thought out. It's really tight and you have to slide it down the handle to remove it. I made my own Kydex sheath and it works perfect. I have the next size up Estwing camp Axe arriving today. I'll make a Kydex sheath for that one too. That's just how it is. Most of the supplied knife and axe sheaths are junk.

Pedro Munoz: The axe came sharp enough for practical use if you intend to split small logs for firewood or need to get some pesky saplings out of your way, but the steel used is susceptible to damage easily if not sharpened enough to take on hardwoods. I had the unfortunate experience to encounter galvanized steel nails in a small log I meant to chop for the winter, but the damage isn't so bad that it can't be worked out on coarse stones. I'm using it for the purposes I've listed above, but I don't believe this to be practical for downing a tree bigger than, say, 16 inches across without needing to sharpen the blade again, just take care as the powder coating comes off if you don't have good sharpening technique. Would NOT recommend for sport throwing as the handle is likely to make it rebound if you're a novice and the balance makes it a bit more handle-heavy. Overall it's easy to handle, fairly durable (if you're observant unlike me), and makes for a great alternative to a wood handle hand axe if you want something you can take on a short camping/hiking trip. Great gift for that boy scout, if you're looking.

Daryl Reaume: i didnt like how hard it is to get the sheath off of the axe now, i imagine as the material used loosens up that will improve.

GuillaumeGuillaume: Multiple dents on the edge, dust in multiple spots and a deformation in the blade (like a wave)...
EDIT :
it's really frustrating to buy an item that arrives in such poor condition. It shouldn't pass the check. However, after restoring the blade, I have to reconsider my assessment. The axe and its edge are really great, once the blade has been reworked (a lot, really a lot), it has hardly moved despite heavy use and keeping it as it is is really easy. In short, a single star originally ... but in use: four. Solid hatchet...
