shipwreckshipwreck: Usually I own something for a while before I consider reviewing. Made up my mind sooner than usual on this.
First, it rocks out of the first hit pretty easily(sycamore is a pain to split).
Second, it really does give a good split on the first strike for the most part.
Only complaint is the flaired lip on the handle end catches the hem of a tshirt on the upswing, and I might add some no slip grip patches on the handle to help with gloves in cold icy weather.
But here’s why I’m giving a review so soon.
Cut down a dead oak and split most of it except for one twenty inch long chunk about a foot across. A maul just kept bouncing off. Splitting axe went in for an inch and got stuck. Wedges were mushrooming under the sledge. It was my white whale for a few days.
Destroyed my cheap ace axe(plastic handle ripped out off the head) so ordered this. Took about eight strikes with the fiskar axe before it finally split. There are about a dozen fence wires running through the width of the trunk, spaced evenly throughout. It was essentially stapled together, and the new axe managed to tear them all apart.
For years I’ve used cheap axes with no real complaints, I’m not...

Consumer: This axe is great. I was able to split giant maple and yellow birch logs with it this summer, around 2 cords worth. Make no mistake, a regular axe will not do when trying to split large logs. A splitting axe/maul is necessary for the bigger pieces.

Luke: Phone company cut down some trees on surrounding properties so I gathered up some fire wood. After watching videos for this maul, I wanted it bad. After all, my old Gerber hatchet of the same style has never let me down. (Before Fiskars aquired the brand or style or whatever.) I received mine today, took my first swings with it. A 10” by 30” log of cherry sitting uncovered for 2 weeks split first swing. It felt amazing. In the dark, at 50-60% strength for safety in the darkness, it split like nothing. Second swing I overreached and smacked the handle square at about 70% strength and it ate it like a champ. Stung the hands a little, but I got the one with the rubbarized orange handle. I’m 6’ 3” and it feels fit to me perfect so far. It’s nice to have a nice large tool that felt like it’s built for me for once. There are two models of this axe and I was hoping for the older orange (rubbarized) handle one as there are two 36” options that don’t specify clearly. I bought the cheaper one, not the “super splitter” one and got the orange handle. Perfect. Tomorrow I go for the 30” pine rounds. I’ll update if I’m not too happy splitting. This thing is huge and I...

Jk: Great value for money, hard use axe. Synthetic Handle has pros and cons, but as a use an abuse tool, it's very good. Great size for general camp and lighter household use.

johnp: Amazons service was a great. Even though I used Supersaver they shipped it right out using UPS and I got it 3 days later. Thanks Amazon.

Let me say in general I despise Fiskar tools and never buy them. While some are very well designed the price point demanded by all you people who buy made in China or made India lousy products at Home Depot means Fiskar has to lower the price point to where the quality is not commercial. Fiskar tools in general are not commercial and I have destroyed or worn out every Fiskar tool in short order as I have a large property and commercial orchards and timber land and my tools are heavily used especially by the 'help' that does not have to pay for the tools.

In general I stick with Gransfour Bruks (Sweden), Vaughn (USA), Estwing (USA), Milwaukee (USA-electric saw), Silky Saws /cutting hatchets (Japan) or the professional Grade Husqvarna chainsaws when it comes to felling timber.

I took down a big ponderosa pine and was splitting it green. My near six pound maul was having problems with the big rounds as the wood was very wet. And it is a hassle to use a wedge and 8/10 pound hammer. And my 8 lb maul had a broken...
