Old Sole: I am a huge fan of Dr. Greger’s. As a result of the recommendations he makes in two of his other books and the massive amount of research and science-based information he makes available to everyone for free on his website, my family and I have significantly improved our health after one of us had an unexpected heart attack.

As we realize that the new normal in our world may likely be a periodic surge of viruses

CJ Anarchist: I first encountered this author when doing nutritional research (he had a best nutritional bang for your buck post about vegetables) and I found his posts both funny and interesting. It turns out that before he started focusing on nutrition, he worked with infectious disease prevention.
I was impressed that Dr Greger managed to write such a huge book so fast because this book came out in 2020 and he only write it because of the pandemic.
So here I am buying it and reading it 3 years later because it's so interesting and well written. I hope I won't need it in the future, but you never know. o_O

John Reitter: As usual Michael Greger has written a masterpiece on a complex subject and made it understandable to ordinary people, yet all the details are discussed in depth, including the history of pandemics, how they originate, and what can be done to stop them before it is too late and a super virus becomes unstoppable. Here is some of what I learned:

The immoral push to rush the opening of schools to boost the economy and corporate profits will end when the first child or teacher dies a horrible death on a ventilator while their lungs fill up with blood and fluid.

But the essential thing to understand is that the more the virus spreads, the more it mutates and becomes smarter, deadlier and harder to stop. Every day it is learning how to be more virulent and more contagious! Read the book, "How to Survive a Pandemic" by Michael Greger, which explains in detail how viruses get better at infecting and killing people through thousands of mutations daily. That is why everything possible must be done to limit spread before we are faced with a much more deadly pandemic.

It is not a matter of IF but WHEN a much worse epidemic attacks us, and we are not prepared for it at all....

Cyrus Webb: I have known of Dr. Michael Greger's work before, but when I heard about the book HOW TO SURVIVE A PANDEMIC I believed it was one of the most timely books that was being released in a year of fear and uncertainty.

Does he ACTUALLY share HOW to survive a pandemic? Yes he does, BUT before we get there he gives us a much-needed and informative history lessons of pandemic and where things like the Coronavirus come from. Why is that important? Well it sets the stage of allowing us to know how we got here, and what we need to do moving forward.

Voices like Dr. Gregory are needed when so many people are looking for truth. He gives it to you in a way that is timely, real and actionable. Can we get through the times that are affecting people around the world? YES. The question is are we willing to make the changes and do the work necessary to do so.

Jeddy 3: Strengths of this book: Heavy on science made digestable, and impeccably referenced. The section on pandemic preparedness and current precautions to take is helpful and calming, if nothing revolutionary. Weaknesses of this book: Very extensive focus on the dangers of the way livestock is raised, and how it contributes to pandemics. It's a weakness not because Dr Greger is wrong (it's well written, well-sourced, and interesting, and it's hard to deny most of what he says), but because at a certain point this topic hijacks a book that is ostensibly about surviving a pandemic, but becomes more about how poultry is a pandemic vector.

On to the full review. Once again, Dr Greger boils down the nerdy science to action items that are easily digestible for a non-nerdy audience. He's very good at hitting the right balance between science writing and accessible prose. Without alarmism or speculations, he discusses the current theories on the origins of the COVID-19 virus. He then describes, in just enough detail, past pandemics, from bubonic plagues to the 1918 influenza (which had a death rate far higher than COVID-19) and H5N1. The book is worth reading just for its clear and...
