It needed 4 wires (1 ground and 3 insulated wires - black, white and red) to work properly) so I couldn't use this switch.

Very good fan/light switch. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that the knobs are prone to breaking. There is only a small piece of plastic on the knob that fits into the slider on the side of the switch that can easily break. Once this happens the switch has to be replaced.
