Reasonable ReviewerReasonable Reviewer: Loyalty, courage, friendship, and perseverance are the watchwords of the rabbits of the ember.
There are many set-backs, and the road is difficult, but we see the fruition of resistance movements and plans by the freedom fighters that have been in the works for generations.
All of your favorites are back from the previous books.
In this book we go to the First Warren, the site of the evil raptors greatest victory and a site for the Quislings of the bunny world to bow down to their avian masters ... until today.
The book tracks separate personalities throughout the chapters until they all come together for the stunning conclusion and setting up a truly epic third book.
The book is family safe for your middle grader, and the book promotes excellent values.
When the bunnies are down, they pull themselves together and try harder.
No one does this alone, and they all help one another.
There are moments in the book of terrific sacrifice and stunning forgiveness and redemption.
I give this book my highest recommendation.

Emily.S: We absolutely LOVE the Green Ember series in our home. The past year we have been slowly working through the books as a part of our read aloud in our homeschool. I love the convos it sparks, particularly around character development and the choices the characters make when under fire. Both the mistakes they make and the courageous decisions they make are great discussion points. It also is a huge bonus that as the oarent, I am very invested in the world created and each rabbit as well! Can't recommend these books enough, although for younger children there are some darker themes and scenes that may be challenging.

Pearson: Like the other books in the Ember series, Ember Rising is amazing! It is richly crafted, with the depth of character and plot we have come to anticipate from S.D. Smith. The book picks up where Ember Falls left off and carries us onward toward the vision of the Mended Wood. Filled with twists, turns, hills and valleys, we are taken on a wild adventure with Heather and Pickett as they face separate, but equally threatening forces against the cause. Along the way, we fall in love with new characters and are reacquainted with old ones that could never be forgotten. We weep as we watch in our mind’s eye the laying down of one’s life for a cause greater than any individual; we rejoice as the rabbits press on in the midst of the heartache and terror of the world they live in. All the while, looking to the restoration they know will one day come. There is no cost too high, no sacrifice too great, no danger too perilous, for these sword-wielding rabbits. The book has sparked many deep discussions with my children about loyalty, bravery, and of course, theology. Not that the book necessarily takes any theological stance, but one cannot help but draw the parallels. More than anything,...

Fluit Momma: 3rd in the series and no slowing down! It left us chomping at the bit for the next book in the series. C'mon S.D. Smith, my kids ask me at least once a week if you've finished it yet! This series is a Family Favourite and destined to become a childhood classic!
