christopher McAleaveychristopher McAleavey: These CT work great to monitor generator AMP draw . I set it up to monitor each leg separate. Works flawless , but great detail must be given for a secured proper install. I wasn’t able to get this CT to monitor both legs at once, but this setup actually provides more detail about power demand while using. I added a second electrical box on top to setup and install the CTs and gauge displays. Secured CTs with pvc straps and JB weld marine goo. They work flawless !!! Inexpensive and great quality! I’ll try and update after a few months use.

JohnnieMoJohnnieMo: So in my fifth wheel, I got tired of parasitic draw killing my batteries. I had added a small 50W solar panel (also from Amazon) and connected that into the system. It was granting me about 3A mid-day, which should be more than enough to keep the batteries from dying. However they kept dying over and over. I wanted to get to the bottom of it. I had spent months trying to figure this out.

So I asked the question on here, on whether or not this meter handles negative current (i.e. solar charging). The response from someone was that it did. So I purchased it. I liked this meter because it came with a shunt which allows you to sample any current reading (small to large) while hooked in to a larger current circuit.

So what's a shunt? Well it's quite clever. A shunt is a low resistance band that allows large current to flow. It's basically a resistor, with a very well known resistance. It looks just like a chunk of metal, but it's more than that. As current flows through it, you can calculate the drop in voltage from the resistance. Since you are measuring Voltage (V) and you have a known resistance (R), you can easily calculate current (I) with Ohm's law. Neat...

KenCTKenCT: I needed a solution to monitor volts and amp draw for my generator that is connected to my main panel by interlock. I wanted a solution next to the panel instead of at the generator, with this I can see exactly what load I am putting on the generator as I turn individual circuits on. If you are not familiar with an interlock - it is an electrician installed lockout safety switch that requires the incoming MAIN circuit to be turned off before allowing the generator circuit to be turned on - which then provides power to the entire panel to the extent your generator can handle the load.

My electrician installed a 30amp 220v circuit on the panel and the outlet outside the house as well as the interlock that is specific to my panel type. The new meter only works with the panel in the generator mode and the generator is suppling power.

I purchased two of the Drok meters and a box to mount them, worked out well I think as can be seen in the picture. This is the meter showing each side of the panel and the draw on each 10 amps and 12 amps (with most everything turned on short of dryer). By installing two meters I can better balance the load.
