Amazon Customer: I had never been to the island of Kauai before and purchased this book as searching online can be rather tiresome. Well worth the money. You will never find a guidebook this detailed. This guy literally takes hiking trails step step, or every path or road off of the main roads and how far it is and what mile marker to look for and the detail is insane. It was well worth the money just from one tip on a lookout point in Waimea Canyon that we would've probably missed had I not had this book. I literally had it in our car on my lap and going through it page by page as we were in route to our destinations.

California Doug: These are the best guides to Hawaii ever. They are updated every 2-3 years, but even then you may want to double check some businesses with a phone call, as things changed during the pandemic.

Brenda K. Pence: My husband and I have booked our vacation for January 2015. I will provide another review of this book upon our return from vacation. I am giving it 4 stars because of the lay out of information and it is very functional for trip planning. It also provides excellent access to other sites for additional information on rooms ,food, transportation and activities. The weather information for the different areas of the island and what to bring was very helpful. Most importantly it stopped us from booking a consolidated travel package thru Triple AAA where we would have stayed at a Disney Land type of resort that covered acres of land and would have required some major hikes to get to our car as well as food and beverages. A place our grand children would have loved and we would have booked if they were coming with us. Andrew's book saved us from that mistake. It also saved us from the mistake that friends made in booking a resort rental without any services and finding themselves hunting a key in the dark that the owner had hidden under a mat. L. Langer: Waren im Mai auf Kauai - leider nur 4 Tage. Der Reiseführer war genial und wurde uns auch von unseren Gastgebern empfohlen. Lt. deren Aussagen wird der Autor auf den Inseln nicht gerade gemocht, weil er die Dinge wirklich enthüllt! Jeder kleine Strand und jeder Zugang zu einer Besonderheit wird gut beschrieben und die Karten sind wirklich brauchbar, detailliert sowie aktuell (UND in Farbe). Wir haben hiermit jeden Ort super gefunden. Die Empfehlungen für die Strände, Aktivitäten und Ausflüge sind toll und auch top aktuell.
Sollte man länger auf einer Insel bleiben, lohnt sich auf jeden Fall diese Investition!
Schade, dass es diese Bücher nicht auch für andere Reiseziele gibt!

chubtor: This island needs a lot of exploring and this guide is without doubt the best way of getting around. Excellent guides for places to stay, sights to see, restaurants to eat at and activities to do. The fold out maps are a bonus and really useful when you are travelling around the island.

Leonard: I'd purchased the Fodor's and Frommer's guide books on Hawaii, which cover all islands. Andrew Doughty's books were recommended to me by a Hawaiian lady I rented a cottage from. I'd seen them while searching on Amazon, but I thought I could save money by buying the "all island" books instead. Mistake. These island specific books by Doughty are much better than the Fodor's and Frommer's "all island" books in my opinion (I bought Doughty's Big Island and Kauai books). Not that the Fodor's or Frommer's Hawaii books were bad, they were just not nearly as good. Doughty's recommendations helped make for an awesome family vacation on the Big Island and Kauai. His writing is readable and entertaining. We carried the books in the car wherever we went. Each book has an accompanying smart phone app (sold separately for iPhone or Android) that is a great complement to the book. It uses the phone GPS to tell you what is nearby and even shows your exact position when on a hiking trail out of cell phone coverage area! I will be buying his Maui book (and accompanying smart phone app) before I return to Hawaii to visit that island.
