Mike: This brush uses heavier wire than most drill brushes. The twisted rope helps the brush keep the wire ends in contact with the metal for fast removal of rust. The small size help get into smaller spaces that larger 5/8" drive disk or cup brushes cannot reach.

JA: I bought this knotted wire brush to use in my air angle die grinder. I recently used it to remove rust from brake calipers and caliper mounting brakets after soaking them in acid. It did an excellent job, and appears to be holding up well so far.
It did take a little getting used to, because it will grab and kick. I found that for the application in question, it was best to hold it firmly and to press the brush lightly against the work surface. Let the tool do the work. Also, watch out when working around edges and corners, as it seems particularly prone to kicking when it encounters those.

Frank N Stein: Typical great Dewalt quality, but very difficult to work with on hand held tools. Good for getting in tight spots, but really had limited effect on rust and scale removal on the chassis I was prepping for paint. I found the softer wire brushes to be much more effective and the 3M sanding discs to be the ultimate for larger areas. The woven steel braided wires are far too stiff for hand held tools.
