JEG: This book was recommended to me for a cancer friend that I know. She thoroughly enjoyed the book which was a gift to her when she had cancer.

Sue: To respond to some of the poor reviews: No, this is not a recipe book “for healthy people” if you read the title. Yes, some recipes are sweet TO GET PEOPLE TO EAT!!!! Sometimes calories are more important than “healthy food choices.” No food, no strength, no hope. This is the BEST book I’ve ever seen of its kind. My first was a pharmaceutical freebie. But after being unable to find more copies over the past few years, this book is worth its weight in gold. Whether it’s no sense of taste, mouth sores, nausea, constipation, exhaustion, etc. this book is a godsend to those fighting the disease as well as those who just want comfort in hospice.

Tuula Ayotte: Liked the listings for sore mouth, constipation, etc. However, sugar feeds cancer....I found there was too much sugar in her recipes. I'm looking for recipes with no sugar at all and I am finding them online and from friends.

gramma: when you're really suffering through chemo treatments, you don't have the energy or the desire to prepare food or eat it. Well-meaning book, decent recipes but someone else would have to do the work for you and hope that it's a day when you feel like eating.

Brie: In the Fall of 2009, two of my immediate family members were diagnosed with different forms of cancer within three months of each other. One has lung cancer. One has stomach cancer (which had been mis-diagnosed as IBS by two independent physicians over the course of a year). As both began chemo treatments and suffered the seemingly inevitable problems that go along with it, I just happened across this book and am so thankful that I did.
This book is full of helpful information that no oncologist or other medical provider has shared with my family. In addition to the general info, the recipes are simple and are divided up in useful categories to suit what may be going on at any particular point in time: what to eat on chemo day, what to eat when your white blood cell count is low, what to eat when you're constipated. The categories go on and on and in the words of my family member who has stomach cancer, she wishes "someone had told us about this book months ago. It's been a real life-saver."
I don't advocate adopting any new nutrition plans without consulting with a physician. If you have a friend or family member who has cancer, however, I do advocate getting this...

Amazon Customer: The book was very nice and full of wonderful recipes. I sent it to someone I know who is currently battling cancer hoping it will help her to find good, nutritious meals to build up her strength when she's able to enjoy eating again.
