Fadi Shamaan: Let me preface this review by saying that I never thought I would be writing a review for a dryer vent hood, let alone a funny one. But here I am, and I must say that the Deflecto Dryer Vent Hood, Wide Mouth, 4", White (RVHAW4) has exceeded all of my expectations.

First of all, let's talk about the "wide mouth" feature. I have never seen a dryer vent hood with such a large opening. It's like the dryer vent equivalent of a giant yawn. But in a good way, of course. The wide mouth allows for more efficient airflow, which means my clothes dry faster. And let's be honest, who doesn't want to save time on laundry day?

But here's the real kicker: the white color. Now, you might be thinking, "What's so funny about a white dryer vent hood?" Well, let me tell you. My husband, bless his heart, thought it would be a good idea to paint our old dryer vent hood black to match the trim on our house. Spoiler alert: it was not a good idea. The black paint started chipping and flaking off after a few months, and it just looked ridiculous. So, when we saw that the Deflecto Dryer Vent Hood came in white, we jumped at the chance to replace our janky, DIY black hood.

Serge: When I got around to replacing my dryer vent, I was way past the return period. Wish I had been quicker on this.

Trying to install it (well, actually I gave up after the third shot at installing). The provided pipe is too flimsy, and holds in a shallow groove by a prayer, not much else. It comes assembled, but in my experience the pipe comes off when you wiggle it or try to hook up the flexible aluminum foil duct. Since I have very little wiggle room where I am installing it, each failure meant going back outside, uninstalling the wall plate, pull the flimsy aluminum pipe some, then try to reinsert it in the narrow, shallow groove, slip it back in without applying any kind of force, then pray that it did not come off (after reinstalling the outside part). Then curse some more upoon realizing that not everything went smoothly.

After those trials, I went to the nearby DIY store and bought a product made in Richibucto, NB. Way better, was installed in much less than an hour, at first crack!

Mark: For $5, this vent hood is a good buy. The sheet metal sleeve is a bit flimsy but does the job.

Arvette: This turned out to be one of the BEST purchases I have made. I had a BIRD issue in my dryer vent. The critters were surely setting up their condo for the winter. lol I could hear them scrummaging through the wall. BUT THIS THING HERE! ---> got rid of the problem IMMEDIATELY! NO MORE BIRDS~ and was very easy to install!..

suzanne swiftsuzanne swift: I bought for my cabin to put on the end of my air exchange pipe. Wanted something to keep wind and weather out.

This is seriously a crazy buy. $4 each?! I though msybe I paid $8 each, which would STILL be a good deal!

The metal tube IS attached to the plastic, it comes apart if you pull REALLY hard. There is also a flap on the inside that is one way. That surprised me.

For my purposes I ripped off the metal tube and stuck the end on my pvc pipe. One I had to cut the collar off to get it to sit somewhat flush. Not a big deal.

I will spray these brown later to better match my cabin. Plan to buy for my dryer later when I build a house.

Seriously, if you are complaining about a $4 full system dryer vent, you don't have much better things to do...

Byen: I never got to the point of trying to install this. The main issue is that the plastic damper (flapper) isn't particularly straight. At its best there was a significant air-gap around the edges. There's no spring or anything so hopefully your vent has the perfect orientation. The point of this thing is to try and prevent cold or warm air (depending on the season) getting in, plus rodents. It will probably do the later due to its plastic grill but without anything like a seal it is just not a great option for weatherproofing a home.

Gord888: The vent this one replaced was a triple louver style that became brittle from uv radiation which let birds in. This vent works well, but the included piping is about half as thick as what i had previously. So, like others, i'd suggest removing and tossing it.
