MagVent MV-90 Magnetic Dryer Vent Connector - Installs Easily & Seals Tightly

We have a stacked washer/dryer that was retrofitted into a closet in an older house. There was just no good way to hook up the dryer vent. We considered having my wife climb over the top, sending my 9 year old around the side, but nothing worked until we found the magvent.

The magvent is a high quality product from top to bottom. The build quality is great, the instructions are well written and clear, the magnet is super strong. I can't recommend it highly enough.

My installation notes are:
1. I had to angle the exit vent a little left-to-right, as the new dryer's exhaust position was in a different place. I should have been more careful to rotate the metal clip that the magvent attaches to. As a result, I haad a bit of trouble getting the clip to seat, but it worked out in the end.

2. When we first attached it, there was a slight space at the bottom of the magvent, shown in one of my pictures above. I was able to climb up and reach over the dryer, and just tap it with a broomstick, and it finished seating all the way.

Dave from GADave from GA: With the dryer on a pedestal, the connection was higher and offset from the wall. The Magvent made the connection easier. I tried other options like the periscope vent, those are bad because air leaks everywhere from the box and joints. See picture, the space is tight and I needed to use a swivel elbow to get everything to line up, added foil vent tape to close up any small air leaks. If you have this type of setup it is one possible solution that fits in a tight space with the fewest joints and clamps. The magnetic ring makes for an air tight joint and allows the dryer to be easily disconnected.

It was a pain to pull out my dryer, climb back there in a very tight space, disconnet the vent, and do all the work/cleaning I needed to do. BillBill: A plastic “dryerbox” was already installed in our house when we moved in more than 10 years ago. The box has an elliptical duct connection at the top and had been a particular headache for years. I had a workable piece of semi-rigid corrugated duct between the dryerbox connection and the dryer, but it was always a fight to get the dryer slid in place in the tight laundry room while not kinking the duct or causing it to slip a little. If I positioned it “just so”, I could tighten the clamps and didn’t get any hot air or humidity in the laundry room. However, a little wobbling of the dryer over time or someone moving the dryer just a little seemed to always jostle things loose enough that I had to squeeze back behind the dryer again.

After one recent frustrating bout of fighting with the hookup, I started searching for a better solution. I found the MagVent and installed it in the dryerbox as shown in the pictures. I first pulled the plastic elliptical insert out of the top of the dryerbox and hand-crimped a shortened piece of adjustable duct on the insert. KateKate: Made hiding all the laundry fitting possible where the dryer and the washer had to be relocated due to the door openings that are unchangeable. We fitted a bench over the machines to increase the usability of the laundry and we would not have been able to connect the dryer without the magnetic connection. Brilliant!

J. Mahon: The MagVent MV-90 is a great idea and it works exactly as advertised and shown in the videos. HOWEVER, the sheet metal seams are not factory sealed and will allow a lot of lint to escape into your laundry room -- especially since this is a pressurized pipe -- UNLESS YOU SEAL THEM YOURSELF, FIRST. This is especially true of the receiver boot; could actually see light through the round-to-straight corners. I simply sealed all joints with clear silicone sealant (using a popsicle stick). Flex-Seal would also be a good/better choice but I didn't have any handy. The gap between the sheet metal rim and flex duct on the inside of the dryer-mount boot is probably okay, but I sealed it anyway, just to be safe.
The strong magnetic rings make a tight boot-boot seal, but this is metal on metal. From an engineering perspective, it would be nice if there were an o-ring or some other impervious seal between those metal parts to ensure no lint gets through. Maybe not necessary, but just an engineer thinking.
IMPORTANT TIP: many dryers have crimped ends on their vent output pipes. If this is your case, you will need to find a way to fill those crimps or all those tiny gaps between the output...

Tod Campbell: After install, we noticed our clothes dry faster with less lint. Space saving design let us get the dryer close to the wall and connecting the magnetic vent is super easy, just slide it out. In time alone saves 10 minutes anytime you want to move the dryer for maintenance. Will never use any other connection for a dryer, so simple, and surprisingly a lot more efficient.
