I’ve purchased three of these locks. The first one I bought back in 2019 works AMAZING! So I purchased another one of the same brand through Home Depot. It was defective and the paint was chipping off of it and getting everywhere! I returned it and purchased a third one from Amazon using the “buy again” feature. So same item, same vendor as the first one I bought in 2019. Well this one was so defective that it wouldn’t stay engaged to keep the door from being opened by my 2year old. The metal is flimsy and bends out when pulled on (by a 2 year old!). This makes it so the lock won’t engage even though it looks like it is engaged.
Thank goodness I installed this defective one on my garage door and not my front door or my toddler could’ve run into to street!
Buyer beware!!!
Also, even though Amazon listed this as free returns when I bought it, I was unable to return it within the return window because the item is “currently unavailable “ on Amazon. So I’m SOL.
Bad business!

A.F.: As I was not able to get this product from any store in my area, I ordered 2 at the end of October. Although very easy to install neither one of them worked properly from the get go. On both locks, the flip portion would not seat into the slots provided so they would actually lock. No matter what I tried they just would not work. It is very disappointing because they are compact, unobtrusive looking on the door and would be easy to use if they actually worked. However, I would not risk ordering them again.

Henry818Henry818: Easy to install and inexpensive. It is designed for ensuring privacy rather than security. I used it to lock a basement door connected to a rental legal suite. When it is removed, it only leaves two holes on the jamb, not on the door, and won't make the door looks ugly. The two included screws are quite small.

Adelia DiGaetano: It didn’t hold the door closed enough. If you used some force, it would come open.

KT: The best, most reasonably priced solution we found for keeping our toddler safe. Easy to install. Easy to use. Simple but very effective.

Using it for babyproofing the house. Easy to install, small and discrete. Much more convenient than those big clunky handle guards. However, you do need to jiggle it a bit to flip it open. The mechanism is not very smoothe.
Note: you can only use this on doors that swing towards you (ie. hallway closets, door to basement etc)

These are so simple and minimalistic which I love because they don't attract the attention of little eyes (who seem to take visible barriers to mischief as a personal challenge). When locked, the door doesn't even budge, which, to a toddler just means "hmm I guess this isn't a door after all..." where as a door that can be jiggled or slightly opened before hitting resistance seems to inspire more tenacity of "ooo this door wants to open but it's stuck.... I better slam it as hard as I can repeatedly"
The only downside is this can only be operated from one side of the door and only on doors that open out. the fact that it works so perfectly and it's less than $3 more than makes up for those things though, so all is forgiven. for doors this lock won't work with, I love the "top of door locks" that slides on top of the door itself.
I know aesthetics take a backseat when it comes to child safety, but these are so clean and nice looking, they would win a baby-proofing beauty contest in addition to whatever accolades they would be awarded for their functionality, sturdiness, ease of install/use, and price!!! Anyone who has never tried to thwart the brilliance of...

Our house has french-style handles on all doors. Thanks to my crafty and determined 2-year-old, I have found there are few choices for french doors that fit properly and can withstand repeated attempts to best them. The one that worked for internal doors (typical plastic snap-on type) wouldn't fit on the front door due to the deadbolt and the adhesive wouldn't stick to the metal exterior doors. I naively relied upon the deadbolt until finding her outside one day. When did she learn how to open the deadbolt!? As I don't expect to need it more than a few years I didn't want something that would put holes in the molding that we'd need to deal with later. Finally found this and it is simple but brilliant! I agree with other reviewers: mount it high enough; as it's not unattractive like most others is easy to forget about it and wonder why the door won't open :-) ; so far seems strong enough to handle all she can dish out.
One thing that I wish I would have known is that it can (or maybe should) be mounted on the side (left or right) of the door with the knob. My assumption was that it went on the side with the hinges where the door attaches to the frame. My...

This lock is working well for me to keep my child from accidentally opening a basement door. There are some things to keep in mind, though.
One, put this high. I just found out today that my two-year-old knows how to open it. I was holding him near the door to see if he could figure it out and he did. It's very easy to unlock this clasp, as you just have to push the plate slightly up while pulling it towards you. If a child can use a chair or something else to reach it, they could beat it. There's nothing he can move in my house that will let him even get close to reaching mine, though.
Two, the screws that come with the product are junk, as has been stated. Even with little torque, mine both were eaten by the drill bit. I put two of my own in without a problem, though. Remember to keep the tiny little screw, though, if you ever want to permanently unlock the product. Me, I'll just remove it when it no longer serves a function, but it's good to have the option in case you need to leave it in place but don't want to bother with it all the time.
Three, make your install easy. Close the door you're putting it on, hold it in place in the locked...
