KIRBY RASCH: I always liked David Spade's comedy sense, and now I like him as a person. He describes a difficult childhood without any self-pity, and manages to find the silver clouds. His love for his mother-- who apparently went through very difficult times herself-- is heartwarming. His telling of the personal assistant appearing in his bedroom door late at night was chilling. But even then, he tells it in a way that is devoid of self-pity. best of all, I laughed out loud constantly. Great book, Spade!

Amy L C: The first few pages had me laughing out loud. I was never a huge fan, but after reading more about him I grew to like him a lot more. He's a funny writer. Worth a read.

Gabby Hayze: I’ve loved Spade since seeing him on SNL doing “Hollywood Minute”. I was a teen and am convinced between him and Seinfeld my sarcastic sense of humor blossomed. This was an ok read. It’s random stories that are amusing but they don’t cause belly laughs.

He skips his time on sitcoms completely. I thought maybe it would be more behind the curtain than it was. He’s still Spade, though, and it was amusing and fun to read.

Amber_Dawn918: I've been a David Spade fan for years. His writing sounds just like his stand up, and I've always enjoyed the way it flows, and the snarkiness. I wish I hadn't listened to Howard Stern interview him about the book when it first came out, Howard is so thorough with his interviews that he covered a large portion of the book on the show!

Diane Lucas: You don't have to like David Spade to enjoy this book. It's honest and funny, what a life this guy has had !

TonyN: A breezy read at some 240 pages, but a lot of great content packed in there. A few moments I just barked out laughter either at a story or at one of the many little 'one off' comments throughout the book.

Mostly focused on the SNL stuff, which was great. The Eddie Murphy story was incredible, the stories about Chris Farley both funny and touching. I would say it paints a realistic picture of the behind-the-scenes of the show, touching on stuff from interacting with many hosts through the hassles of laundry and the working hours.

It is written by a male, unabashedly so. Lots of stories about models and centerfolds and hanging with the guys, but in a fun, friendly way. Nothing 'bro' here, just some fun.

I never saw 'Tommy Boy', nor watched his sitcom 'Just Shoot Me'. Familiar with 'Buh bye', but that's about it. Even with that, the book was great. If you are a fan of his movies or his show or his career overall, you will love the book just that much more.

But if that's the case, note that not everything is covered. Only the Chris Farley movies are mentioned and Just Shoot Me maybe got one or two little mentions? Police Academy 4 was brought up, but only...

Amazon Customer: A good book. Must admit I did not know David Spade before watching him on Rules on Engagement so this is why I got the book.
The book is easy to ready, fun and I like Spade's attitude. To quote him, Almost interesting

hospital cop 612: David Spade has the kind of humor which I enjoy and inspire to myself. I enjoy SNL and "Tommy Boy" is one of my all time favorite movies, and that is a VERY short list. I believe that Chris Farley and David Spade could have been as big as Abbott and Costello in the modern era. They were that complimentary together.
As for the book, I could not put it down and had to read it straight through. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is that Spade went too long. The last two chapters were not necessary and did not add to the book. It was like a comedian that was killing it on stage but his set was two minutes too long and he lost his audience. All is forgiven as 80% of the book was really good and I laughed out loud in a couple of places and I almost never do that.

Henry Turboil: I've read hundreds of these "famous people" autobios and have to say that in a lot of ways, this was the most enjoyable. In spite of his a-hole persona onscreen, Spade comes across as a cool guy who went through some s***, paid his dues, and was rewarded for his efforts. He is the ONLY famous person who comes across as truly grateful for the breaks he's gotten, which was very refreshing.
Before I read this book, I honestly felt that Spade was easily replaceable in every movie I've ever seen him in ("Joe Dirt" being the notable exception - he nailed that one), and I only picked this up because I was looking for more details on Chris Farley through people who worked with him. So yeah, I wasn't a big fan or anything. The book turned out to have less on Farley than I'd hoped, but I left with a strong feeling of admiration for Spade. The guy has really overcome a lot of obstacles and manages to describe them without going into "whining" or "so there" douche mode. The a-hole I'd seen nearly 100% of the time in his performances (again, Joe Dirt being a notable exception) was nowhere to be found in his writing. The chapters about his Mom and Dad and brothers are particularly touching....

EMT: Meh, started out ok, enjoyed reading how he rose up the ranks, some interesting tidbits along the way. I went in liking David Spade ... BUT, at some point it became obvious that he was either trying too hard or he really was the shallow "Peter Pan" he makes himself out to be. It became icky when you realized all this "dick/chick" talk was coming from a man in his 50’s.... Ewwwww.
