David's Garden Seeds Heirloom Cucumber Pickling Boston 3399 (Green) - 50 Non-GMO Seeds

J. Bronson: I have had other Boston Cucumber plants that shot out tons of pickling cucumbers - one summer I had 40 gallons of pickles produced by just a few seeds. These are not the same. I still managed about ten gallons this year from these seeds, but that included a couple of plants that only produced oddball cucumbers - usually spherical instead of normal cucumber shape. The plants did continue to produce well after I expected the season to end. I was getting cucumbers even after the foliage was almost fully gone.

Vickie LikisVickie Likis: I am new to gardening but determined to make pickles this summer so I purchased a packet of these seeds, followed instructions and crossed my fingers. Out of 48 seeds 46 sprouted and are growing noticeably taller everyday. It won't be long before they go in the ground and I am making pickles! I am attaching a picture I took this morning showing their growth in 4 days time.

Late Update: They tasted great as long as they were picked around the 3 to 6 inch range. Received way too many from the ~4 plants I had and gave many of them away. I would advise to taste them periodically to find the right size because if they get too big they turn more bitter starting from stem and slowly diffusing towards distal position where flower would be. I probably made about 100+ cucumbers from last season 2018.

MagicMomMagicMom: This was my favorite Amazon purchase all year. As instructed, I put two seeds in each hole. Within a few days, all seeds had taken and I had to remove half of them so that they would grow ok. Then they grew like weeds- visibly growing each day, reaching higher- giant leaves, vines curling over the trellises. In the last week, teeny tiny cukes have started appearing (I count 9 so far, we have 6 plants so I assume there will be much more after the first round of picking. The other poster who complained about texture let their cukes go too long on the vine. You should be picking it small-ish while there are still bumps on the outside and the texture will be awesome and crunchy. See included pic of the cucumber harvested at proper time.

CTJSCTJS: Ordered these knowing that my yard doesn't get enough sun. I found one spot that gets 4 hours of sun, so I decided to just suck it up and try. I planted 8 seeds and all of them sprouted. Once thinned, I ended up with 6 plants. I planted them in containers. Once hardened off, they went crazy! I didn't get enough to make pickles, but considering the lack of sunshine, I am really happy. The cucumbers were delicious, and we have really enjoyed eating them. They are still producing, but the crazy heat in VA is making for some funky shaped cukes and the production has definitely petered off. I can't wait until we have a yard with enough sun to have a real garden. I will buy as many of my seeds as possible from David's Garden seeds.
