Bonnie Robins: It is 1 inch at the bottom, but if your drain is only 1 inch you have to push it in for a leak proof plug. I have looked for smaller plugs but have not found. This one works.

cathie454: Once I finally found the correct size, I was very pleased with the product. It is sturdy and easy to use. Sometimes the "old-fashioned" solutions are the best.
