RichRich: Like others, I got hit on my homeowners inspection previously for not having one of these. My inspection is today, so I paid a couple dollars extra to have it delivered early this morning. It literally took 30 seconds to install. The picture I have included shows the damper as I am trying to close it. That's as far as it will go with the clamp on. That's the purpose, is to prevent someone from accidentally closing the damper and letting gas into your home. Of course I would never have this thing on my fireplace if I was going to continue to live here, because it lets cold air down the chimney in the winter time. I just opened the flu and close it as needed. Anyway, the house will pass inspection now! LOL

KK: Damper clamp. What the heck is a damper clamp. Some idiot decided that with gas logs, you shouldn't be able to fully close your damper. So they invented this. A damper clamp. It's completely unnecessary, but if you want to sell your house with gas logs, you'll need to install one of these.
As for me, the install of the clamp was easy, but with the clamp installed, now the damper would not close at all, because the part that keeps it closed, would not engage. So I had to unscrew the fixed part (a piece of sheet metal that has a gap cut in it, for the damper handle to squeeze into) and move it about 1/8 of an inch closer, and then drill and install the three hold down screws. Took about 5 minutes to do. Helps to get someone to take and hold things, like tools and screws. If you are smart, when you buy the house, you'll remove this so you can fully close the damper. That way mosquitoes won't invade your house in the summer. If you're smarter, you'll take out those gas logs before you list the house.

!Easy E!: This review is for the Damper Clamp.

In the midst of selling my house, they had an inspector come through and they insisted that my fireplace was not up to code and I needed a damper clamp. My house was just built 18 months ago so I couldn't believe that this wouldn't be standard for builders. Well, it ended up not being a standard feature that builders put on. The good news is that this exists on Amazon.com.

The whole purpose of this product is so that the damper flute doesn't shut when the fireplace is on and it is trapping gas within the house and everyone gets sick or dies.

SUPER easy installation, especially if you haven't used it like me. You literally slide under your fireplace, open the damper flute, put this clamp on the edge of the lip, and use a pair of pliers to grip it on the the damper flute.

After that, you are done and you do not need to hire anyone to come into your house and do a 5 minute job for a few hundred bucks.

dp: The only thing I would prefer on this is if the curved loop was less of a hook and more of a square off. Our fireplace damper has a lip, so it took some effort to actually get it to stick. It actually dropped behind, and I had to grab a magnet to retrieve since I could not reach it or see it. I was disappointed when it fell, but relieved when I recovered it. I had to lay on my back, reaching up to put in place. It works though, so it was a worthwhile purchase, but be aware that it may not fit spot on.

I had to install after having the gas company cite us for not having one when turning our gas back on. Best option I found was this one.
