For my 2021 it was simple, remove spare tire cover and on passenger side under threshold for rear hatch is the plug in. Used my driver to install the self-drilling screw for the white wire. I chose to leave the trailer lead in the spare tire compartment to keep the plug out of the weather. Earlier models have the cars plug in on the driver's side. Driver side plug in requires side panels to be pulled out.

Daniel HimmelsteinDaniel Himmelstein: My kit came without the self-tapping ground screw, so I had to dig through my collection for a short screw to use instead. ChatGPT recommended a copper, brass, or stainless steel self-tapping screw for best conductivity. Otherwise would be 5 stars.
Also the double sided adhesive strip in my kit had lost all of its stickiness, so I used 2 XL command strips instead. No points off here since this was for a 2017 Subaru Outback Limited and my guess is the unit has been sitting around for years since production.

Ed Armstrong: It took more time to access the Subaru wiring harness than it did to connect the Curt harness to the car. Simple straight forward, I am happy with the product. I was able to get the product on sale which was a bonus.

Nick T.: I got this for trailer wiring. I know it says it won’t work on the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek but it fit perfect. I plugs right in to existing trailer plug in trunk. You just need to put in a self taper screw for a ground. I tuck it all into the spare tire area under the floor until I need to use it and it’s hidden. You can route it out to the trailer plug through rubber plugged holes but I chose not to.

Tom Beeforth: No need to splice just find the open connector and plug in. Took longer to find the connector than to do the whole job

R. MACKR. MACK: Easy to install. Used a small cat's paw pry bar for removing the cargo side panel clips so I could access the trailer wiring quick connector on my 2015 Subaru Forester. Only complaint was that the provided double sided sticky foam tape was no longer sticky, obviously it was well past it's shelf life. My mechanic quoted me $140 to do the job so certainly saved money by doing it myself.

Keith T.: Our Subaru came with a hitch receiver but no electrical connections, which are necessary for even a small Uhaul trailer, so I bought this after reading an install guide online... and it works perfectly! The hardest part of the whole process is getting to the electrical plug behind the cargo bay side panel, but even that is pretty simple (tip: the two pieces of blue tape wrapped around the plug wires can be slipped off by hand, even if you can't get your head down there to see them). After that, you just plug this connector in, drill a small hole to attach the ground wire to the car frame, and stick the signal converter behind one of the panels (double-sided tape included). There is a rubber cap for the 4-pin connector, so you could technically leave it dangling out the back of the trunk, but it stashes nicely in the spare tire tray under the cargo area floor when not needed.
