Michael: I liked this hotplate a lot, the first year and half i had it. Then it stopped putting out much heat at all (although still heated up a little), making it unusable for anything (even heating tea).

My guess is the temperature sensor, which prevents overheating, began to fail. Probably a 50¢ part failed, taking down the whole burner. If they had used the $1 version, the hotplate might have lasted longer. Maybe one day i'll take it apart, to see if it can be fixed (and will use the $1 version!)

That said, this seems to be a common failure for hotplates this size (based on reviews), irregardless of brand. All IR burners i've seen, from portable burners like this, to full-sized stovetop IR burners, seem to operate the same way: Full on, then they begin to cycle, on and off, to maintain a given temperature setting. Ovens and microwaves operate the same way. As the temperature sensor fails, it'll either cutoff too soon (i.e. failing to maintain heat, as in my case), or not at all (i.e. causing the unit to overheat). So if it's going to fail, the former is preferred.

Beyond that, though, i liked the styling of the unit, it worked well for a while, and it didn't smell...

Maxim Mikheev: I ordered this stove more than 8 months ago. And tried it only a few days ago.
It had issues (see my initial review).
The seller contacted me and provided a full refund.
I probably got a defective unit, and another one would work well. With this support no risk to try. if it is not working, you will get your money back.

I am putting 4 stars only because the unit I tried didn't work.
I am not trying another unit because I immediately purchased another stove before contacting the seller.

Initial review
I really used it for the first time only now.
After you press button ON you have only one control plug/unplug.
ON/OFF not working after it started. Temperature control is only 1500 watts. I can change info on the indicator from 100 to 1500 but the consumed power is always 1500 watts and it is red hot independently from the selection.

KenKen: Price is reasonable. It has a nice design with a nice black finish-somewhere between satin and matte. Heats up fast. Easy to store. Dial settings not preset but manual control which I like. Being portable, I could put it where ever I want. I did experience a disappointing moment, however. I am a newbie to the glass stovetop appliances. I was unaware of how careful you have to be not to scratch the surface. I got minor scratch on the surface when I shuffled the pot during cooking. I was ready to send it back but decided to look up what customers have to say about other glass top cookware. After reading about glass top cooking surfaces from cooks that use them regularly this is a common situation and one must learn to live with being careful with these surfaces if you like to use them. I suppose it's like having a brand new car and you get freaked out with every little ding while using the car. There were various cleaning suggestions made on the internet and the scratch is signifantly reduced and now I don't pay attention to it as cooking on it functions so well for me. Live and learn.

I normally use a 4 burner gas stove, one burner now no longer functions. I have roof solar...

R. Rocheleau: Having been disappointed by other infrared hot plates that struggled to boil water, it's nice that this one is much stronger. This is equivalent to a stovetop burner.

My only critique is the power settings aren't helpful. They are measured by watts which is unhelpful.

I noticed that the soup preset starts at 1500w and then simmers at 400 so by inference the scheme I'm using is 400 low, 800 medium, 1200 medium high and 1500 high but it would have been nice if the company had provided an equivalency chart.
