aa: Perfect to low simmer which my gas stove does poorly. I hesitated because I am very short on storage in my tiny kitchen, but it stands on its side and slid behind my food processor. No real loss of counter space and ready to pull out in seconds. I love it.

Just a guy and his family: We got this as a temporary extra burner, but we like it so much that we kept using it for slow cooking with the Dutch oven. Super reliable with no annoying extras (that always end up breaking, anyhow).

Amazon Customer: This is an initial review. The cast iron surface attaches to the base allowing it to be kept clean. I put an amp meter on it to evaluate the controls. I was determined to only give it 5 stars if it was a rheostat control. On/off timer controls dont seem to last long. Cuisinart threw me a curve. Its an on/off thermostat controlled. That should have a better life than a rheostat or timer. And with good temperature control. I did not do a boil time test. Thats not high on my list. It ran 10 amps (9.8). thats good enough.

Leon: This review is from the point of view of someone who bought it for brewing beer from extract outdoors. Where I live it gets very hot in the summer, and brewing indoors makes the house steamy and fights with the air conditioner if it's on - so brewing outdoors is a better option.

I bought a gas burner for brewing outdoors, but it actually puts out too much heat, and I get bad boilovers with it. If I turn it down enough that I don't boil over, it smokes something awful, covering the underside of my brewpot with soot. So I thought I'd try an electric burner instead - should be safer, more convenient, and easier than dealing with a propane tank etc.

I haven't tried this outdoors yet, but I've used it inside a few times. It works pretty well and gives off a lot less waste heat than my gas stove does. Unfortunately it's a little underpowered for this task. Even at maximum, it takes a long time to bring the whole thing to a boil, and while it does sustain a boil, it never reaches a good rolling boil. So for purposes of brewing, that cost it a star in my review. Otherwise it's excellent.

GD US: We use it for canning and it works excellent. We wish we could find one with the larger burner because the pot we put it on is quite a bit larger than the burner but being the old-style pot it heats up and works excellent. Easy to store and use anywhere.
