Has stories to go with the recipe. I like the book. Someone said in a review that there are ingredients that you dont have access to in prison. Didn't they ever hear of people smuggling drugs in prison??... food is too! arrived in like new condition. thanks amazon!

This book is on the "Not Allowed" Prison List, due to a story explaining how to smuggle stuff outta the kitchen. All my people had to send this book back to me, because the individual Mailroom Officers denied this book. Which bummed me out, having to pay for shipping 2x for everyone that I sent this book to. [TDCJ requires that once a book is denied, the inmate has to pay to send the book (back) to their loved ones.]
It's a good book with some interesting ideas on how to make food from the limited options in prison. I personally found it interesting on the inmate's level of creativity for comfort food. I'd buy it again.

I've had a lot of talks about prison food. Friends and family did hard time. Close friend of mine is serving a hundred-year sentence at the moment. Meaning his release date isn't even in this century. No possibility of parole. So I know a little something about care packages, putting money on people's books so they can get something from commissary. And the magic they use on the inside to turn the most simple ingredients into meals no one would even imagine on the outside.
But this is a different kind of book.
Unlike the different "jailhouse recipes" type books I've collected over the years, this is just as much a fascinating collection of stories from the inside. Even with all the interesting ramen-related recipes, after a while, you just get mesmerized for them stories themselves. DO NOT pick this book up if you have immediate plans, because you WON'T want to put it back down until you've read it from cover to cover.
What intrigued me about this book in the first place, was that it was co-written by Clifton Collins Jr. His acting career may have not blown up until One Eight Seven, but I was a fan of his since the early and mid 90's. What I...

This book was a small gift for my boyfriend - while he isn't in jail, he is a big fan of the show Brooklyn Nine Nine where one episode is based around prison commissary and trading ramen, so a novelty gift for him. But it exceeded the novelty, the stories are a fascinating read, recipes creative, and to my surprise, the book was signed by the author! We both love it now.

Read it in one sitting, short stories that pretty much inspire the Ignorant people on the outside to open there eyes and realise people behind bars are not monsters. Totally blown away will read again and try the recipes ... Had to make noodles half way through reading lol :p
