The CHAMBERLAIN WD832KEVG Garage Door Opener is the best choice for those seeking an easy-to-install and easy-to-set-up garage door opener. It is an ultra-quiet belt drive opener that features a vibration isolation system that eliminates powerhead vibration for reduced noise. The quick-install rail system allows for faster and easier installation, while the built-in safety sensors automatically reverse the door if anything interrupts the beam. The package also includes the Chamberlain MyQ Internet Gateway for Smartphone Control. With its superior build quality and motion detection, the Chamberlain WD832KEVG is the perfect garage door opener for your home. Dorolei: This project took 8-10 hours spread out over 2 weekends and an afternoon. I was installing a garage door opener for the first time in my garage, so I also had to install support brackets and a door reinforcement bracket. You will also need to buy 2 garage door opener light bulbs (vibration resistant, 100W max, non-LED since LED apparently messes with the Wi-Fi or remote control signal). The 2 garage door opener remotes are pre-programmed and DO come with batteries in them, so you won't need to buy any right now. If you don't own wire strippers, pick up a pair now.
I started assembling the opener and rail. I got to Step 5, Hang the garage door opener, and realized that the support brackets included in the package are for attaching the opener to an unfinished ceiling only (directly to the joists). Since I had a finished ceiling, I had to stop and figure out how to do support brackets. I didn't want to spend $30-40 on an "opener installation kit" for that "upscale look", but I also didn't want to buy one long slotted angle bracket and cut it to size. I ended up going to Lowe's and getting a garage door bracket kit for ~$15, including fasteners.
I read ahead in the...

AcemanAceman: Okay I would have given this 5 stars but for the directions which certainly are not the worse in the world but leave something to be desired. This more of a help for people to avoid the issues I ran into during installation so I want to give some tips on that. I replaced an already existing opener and I'm sure most purchases are for this same purpose (as opposed to new installs). I have a "sectional" door (meaning the door has hinged sections that bend so the door rolls up instead of tilting up which a one-piece door does). So keep that in mind on when considering these tips.
1. THE TROLLEY THREADED SHAFT IS NOT ROUND! Page 8 of the instructions “connecting the trolley threaded shaft”. It would have been NICE if they had pointed out that threaded shaft IS NOT ROUND. It has a flat end that’s difficult to see because it’s black and of course the light in the garage is not the best and so it ONLY GOES IN ONE WAY. I couldn’t understand why it would not go in easily and ended up screwing up the threads which made it more difficult to install because I had to use a wrench to turn it instead of by hand as the instructions noted (I screwed up the a few threads trying to...
