JJ DeWalt : I'm sure most carpenters think just like I do when they see a speed square with a 70$ price tag on it. For a speed square you kidding me nothanks. And I'm sure most out there end up buying the cheap plastic made
Version of this product like I sure did. I paid 20$ for this speed square made of plastic and fell in love with what it does as a square. And right after I was in love with this style of speed square and could never go back to a standard locked position speed square of course you know it the cheap plastic square broke on me. I was very hesitant to pull the trigger on buying a 70$ speed square. Even after I had it and started using it at work daily I feared I was a idiot for buying a 70$ speed square. But if I had to get a new one now knowing what I know I would spend well over 100$ if I had to there is no going back to a standard locked position speed square for me now. And always say best 70$ I ever spent like a idiot on a tool. I use it to find the pich of roofs the angle of anything I'm facing and all the jobs it normally does as a speed square. It has also replaced my torpedo level without me realizing it just thought I never get me 9" level out...

Deborah S.: This tool is incredible! I had to build a complicated set of outdoor stairs this summer (an "L" shape around a corner of our house from a deck on the lower portion to an upstairs balcony (both platforms I also built) and this made the job so much easier. I am actually pretty proficient at building (I designed and built my own house) but generally a regular carpenter's square or speed square was my only tool for marking cuts, figuring angles and checking for square. Those work, but they have limitations and aren't nearly as fool-proof as this. I really love the heft of this, the accuracy and even the handy little pouch (plus pencil and how-to booklet) it comes with. It costs quite a bit--the only thing which made me hesitate before buying--but it was totally worth every penny on just that one job this summer. I am absolutely sure this tool will be with me for life. It is sturdy, well made and accurate to a fault. I don't regret a single thing about this purchase. Believe me, it's worth every penny!

Real Consumer: I bought this because I thought it would make easy accurate work at marking the angle cuts on the ends of my rafters I was making. The edge that sticks over the side of your material to be sure you’re holding it in position seemed to get in the way more than help if you’re using this for anything other than a 90 degree square. I ended up just using my 2’ traditional L shaped framing square instead, its easier to use and more accurate. When this is set to any angle other than 90 degrees the tip on the side that adjusts also always seemed to stick out to far and always seemed to be in the way more than helped. I guess this is the result of someone trying to reinvent a wheel that didn’t need reinventing. You’ll get more use and better results out of a traditional L shaped framing square and a cheap little adjustable bevel scale. The only time the bubble levels on this would be useful is if you’re checking a roof that’s already built and if the roof is already built what would you need this tool for?

Quality is great, it stays in perfect position when locked (I had trouble trusting the lock roller at first, but it does hold true), it deserves 5...

Rog: Good quality a little expensive but that’s understandable with importing it handy to have

deep blue: Great tool. It was expensive, but buying it was one of the best decisions I made with my last project (Installing expensive insulated siding on a house). Saved me a ton of time and money from wasted materials. Be aware that the "finger roll" lock can get locked up if you fix it in place and then pull the arms (tips) apart. That's user error, but the leverage you get by pulling the arms apart can make it almost impossible to undo by turning the roller with you fingers. Avoid doing that, but if you do, try squeezing it back together the same way you pulled it apart.

Amazon Customer: All carpenters need this especially if you cut hips, valleys and rise/runs. Minimized the chance of making mistakes on your mitres. Not a fan of the carrying case but it slides into the tool belt square pocket just fine.

Waiting: Been using this for almost 2 years now. Worth every penny. Thick as a brick, impossible to break, and dead accurate. I'll never be able to use a regular speed square again. As a matter of fact, regular speed squares should just cease to exist.

I'll probably be able to give this to one of my grandchildren.

The only downside: If you have a habit of losing tools like this, it's a big chunk to lose.

upside to the downside: Knowing how much you spent on it, you will never forget where it is at any given moment. Generally you could blindfold me, spin me around, and I could still point to it dead-center.

Update: 7 years later and I still love it, and it's as good as new. Pouch is still holding up and I only recently misplaced the manual, which is still just as readable as the day I bought this thing despite getting soaked at least a dozen times with no exaggeration.

You've done well CH Hanson... I know it's somewhere in this drawer....
