I grew up on the Berenstain Bears so I love sharing their books with my toddler. I know that most of the Berenstain holiday stories can be really religion focused and being spiritual and non religious myself, I was pleased to find a really wholesome story for Easter from the bears without the Christian themes. I would definitely recommend this book!

ImmatrexImmatrex: I was pleasantly surprised with this one. As BB books are traditionally very Christian orientated, I wasn't expecting they'd have one of the best non-religious holiday books on Easter for kids. This book also had the added bonus of a maze in front and two sheets of stickers on the front and back of the book with images from the story, which will make a great little Easter orientated activity for my toddler.
In our family, we focus on the seasonal reasons and cultural traditions behind major holidays because we aren't religious. Easter has always been a favorite holiday growing up because of its focus on the renewal of life coinciding with the spring season change. This book perfectly reflects the non religious celebration of the spring equinox and reinforces the importance behind holiday celebrations not just the fun stuff like candy, gifts and egg hunts, but finding meaningful lessons. The only minor downside to this book for really little kids is it is pretty wordy and starts out talking about Valentine's day which is unnecessary. This book works perfectly for so many things, including even explaining a little bit about plant life and gardening which is awesome...

L. O.L. O.: I bought this for an Easter basket two years ago for my then three-year-old. On the plus side, he still loves it and asks to read it as a five-year-old. On the minus side, it desperately needed more editing. This is painful to read! There are whole sections of text that could be skipped if the story was written more gracefully--they are either repetitive, or awkward, or use several sentences when a couple words or just a picture would do. My husband and I find ourselves making these edits on the fly as we read. (For example, skipping over Brother's dialogue about Sister going to the kitchen on page 4, since it's entirely redundant.) Later there are some inconsistencies where Brother and Sister have "big baskets" and then later "shopping bag(s)"--the illustrations are all baskets. I know it sounds nitpicky, but errors like this and the lack of "flow" overall really interfere with us enjoying reading the book with our kids.
