Amazon Customer: Up to now, I do not understand how to use this calculator. It’s worth purchasing if you know how to use it or have someone to guide you through the process. An excellent buy if you know how to use it.

Walter N. Trump: I wanted a calculator with a backlit display. It seems that to get a backlit display one has to buy a graphing calculator. The Casio fx-9860GII was the least expensive. It apparently is intended for academic use, and has some features which are irritating for general scientific use. In its normal Math mode, for example, entering 4xpi gives the answer 4pi rather than the number, and 4.1xpi gives (41/10)pi. Switching to Linear mode provides calculations as expected, 4xpi = 12.56... with 10 significant figures. In Linear mode, however, the screen navigation features are absent. The precision of calculations is excellent. The Hewlett-Packard pi test, 355/113-pi, gives a result with 8 significant figures; most scientific calculators give 5. There is no built-in table of constants in the calculator as supplied, although there is a table of unit conversions. However, a table of constants and a periodic table of elements are available for downloading, using a USB cable which is supplied with the calculator. Handling of constants is somewhat clumsy. A selected constant cannot be inserted in a calculation directly, but must be loaded into one of the A to Z memories. I find it convenient to...

Quant practitioner: (1) For taking SAT Math II exam, I did a thorough research on which graphing calculator I should buy. My research result is that this brand new one is cheaper than most of its peers and is very easy to use. (2) After using it while reviewing two review books and a few mock exams, I found this graphing calculator very easy to use. Whenever I need to know how to use some functions or to change mode, the corresponding solutions are on the Internet. (3) In conclusion, this graphing calculator is cheaper and more user-friendly than most of its peers.

Michael J Emery: I could not decide between this calculator and the TI-84 Plus CE, so I bought both. I found the fx-9860GII to be a more competent calculator for undergraduate mathematics for the following reasons;

1. It gives exact answers for trig and square root problems (the TI only gives decimals). This is my #1 biggest problem with the TI84 Plus CE.
2. You do not need to open a seperate app to graph inequalities. The TI requires you to change to a different app, which is very clunky.
3. Handles fractions *way* better --> simplification, dedicated fraction key, fraction/decimal conversions.
4. You can use any letter of the alphabet to name a matrix (this is handy because it better supports matrix naming conventions). The TI only supports some letters.

The only issue I found with the fx-9860GII is the fact that fractional values displayed inside a matrix are *displayed* as decimal (but thankfully stored a fractions).

The TI-84 Plus CE had a much prettier display, however the monochrome display of the Casio was much easier to read. The TI did have one advantage over the Casio, it will display fractions inside a matrix.

I also prefer the mat finish on the...

David: What a great calculator this is. OK its just a calculator, but even so! The screen, which is quite large, is divided into different menus for easy of topics.Speaking of size, this is quite big, the largest calculator I have every had, but that is what I like about it, because you can see previous calculations still on the screen at a glance. I also like that fractions are seen as written on paper, although you can decide in which way to see them on the set up menu. The manual is more of a tome (400+ pages) and comes on a cd, but I have found out most of the elements by trial and error. I also think the manual is not very easy to follow, I have found Youtube to be a better source of info as there are many videos to show how different elements work I also found a great site to add further small programs that help you calculate functions immediately, with just a few info inputs, like finding prime factors, or quadratic division, multiplication etc .... not sure if I am allowed to add a link but here it is http://gfxcprograms.weebly.com/grouped-programs.html the programs are free to download. You can also add Geometry, Physium and probability programs from the casio website. I did...

Cannon: Although not simple to use compared to the calculators I was used to using ( Casio FX-991ESPLUS ), this calculator has saved me from a wrong answer many a time! It takes some time to get used to, with an instruction guide so big it comes on a CD. However I had a friend to help me get on my feet with this. The regular maths function is everything you expect, however most of the regular features are quicker to access on calculators like the FX-991ESPLUS mentioned above, but the 'difficult' calculations ,eg, integration are done many times quicker on this calculator, and graphs are very easy to input and work out features, like roots. A must for even an A level mathematician
