It has a nice sized display, and fractions are shown as they actually appear in textbooks.
Yes, other calculators from Casio and Texas instruments, etc. can do the same thing, but the fx-55 Plus has a clean, colorful keypad, and there's a row of keys (in green) specifically dedicated to working with fractions, so if someone is learning the ropes with fractions, it's less intimidating than more versatile calculators.
The other thing I like about this calculator (and most Casio LCD calculators) is that it's easy to adjust the display contrast.
So if fractions are your main bag, this calculator is worth the investment. :)

Oliver: Easy to use. Screen is easy to read. My 7th grader uses it in his math class. We lucked out with this one. And it has a cover so it doesn’t accidentally turn on in his backpack.
